MMA fighters in 2006 NCAA wrestling tourney

Chad Mendes at 125 lbs. Damn son.

Lot of names there. lol at most of them being in the UFC except Askren. Some of those could be mma guys I don't know tho

He was Bellator's HW champ, undefeated, but retired because they weren't getting him fights and he decided to be a commodities broker.
 
Tyler McCormick @ 133 is the older brother of one of my best friends growing up. Wish he would have gone into MMA.. He's a lawyer now, WHAT A LOSER!!

Seriously though I think he could have been pretty good
 
Steve Mocco is an MMA fighter now too.

Shawn Bunch was in Bellator.

Jacob Hager is WWE Superstar Jack Swagger
 
Crazy list especially at heavyweight.

I believe Brandon and Christian Sinnott each had at least one amateur mma fight (both are now on the coaching staff for Davidson College's wrestling team)

Thanks for the list. I recognized a lot of the big names, but your list has a few I did not know fought in MMA.
Makes the talent in that tourney even more impressive.

Somehow I managed to miss Scott Jorgensen and Michael Chandler, derp.

This was also Dillashaw's redshirt freshman year, he didn't make it out of the Pac10 tournament though.
 
2003 California High School Wrestling state championships had quite a few placers that became pro mma fighters as well.

Good, but one of my best friends was far better wrestler than anybody there or anybody in UFC right now.

Far better than Romero? World title, two World runner ups, two World 3rd place finishes and an Olympic Silver medal.
