I've been reviewing Frank Shamrock's career, along with winning the UFC Middleweight Championship (later renamed the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship), Shamrock has also won numerous titles in other martial arts organizations, including the interim King of Pancrase title, the WEC Light Heavyweight Championship and the Strikeforce Middleweight Championship.

He was the No. 1 ranked pound for pound UFC fighter in the world during his reign as the UFC Middleweight Champion and was considered by several people to be a training pioneer, constantly seeking new influences to improve his game, excelling in all the fields of the game some called him the "first mixed martial artist" for combining his great wrestling and submission with effective striking (even though other fighters like Don Frye and Marco Ruas were doing this as well).

Taking all that into consideration, there could be an argument made for putting Frank Shamrock in the GOAT dicussion, however you don't really see his name mentioned in these discussions so I wondered, what's the general view of Frank Shamrock's career among the MMA fandom?

A pioneer. That's my thought. GOAT, less so.

A definite legend and pioneer. He was elite in all areas before it was really a thing.

I really recommend the UFC 22 fight with Tito for any new fans who haven't seen it.

A great fighter, one of the few of his era who were well-rounded.

Won and then unified the ufc belt with the efc title in two matches going under a minute combined.
Beat the much bigger tito via his cardio.

Shame he took time off and the sport passed him by.

I think Frank Shamrock is one of the all-time greats, agreed a pioneer. I actually think his style is the type that's going to be needed to beat Khabib: strong enough to hang with the best wrestlers, tricky enough to catch them and submit them. Frank Shamrock was great in his prime.

Incredibly well rounded in a time when that was not a thing yet. Had he stuck around, maybe could have gotten himself in GOAT talks. Heart of a lion to boot.
