You’ll regret this, and you may regret this a lot sooner than you think."

The quote that just keeps giving.

It's almost like someone tried to warn the Democrats about changing the senate rules.

The difference is that the candidates that Obama nominated were centrist enough to get some republician votes, even though they were uneeded. Bush Jr even came to the defense of Sotomayor as a nominee. The republician nominations have been far from center.

They have 53 republicans.

They just need 50 votes. Pence is a tie breaker.

Collins is up for reelection. Maybe Romney doesnt vote with Lisa Murkowski either due to their Trump dislike or "principles".

Absolutely disgusting...yet entirely expected.

McConnell's rationalization of why they stalled Obama's pick and why he will try to push one through now is laughable...but he has been quite forthcoming that he considers stacking the courts to be his greatest achievement, so there is no surprise that he intends to try and fill the seat.

It's allowed, and politically who wouldn't jump at it.

But I hate the idea of one sided Supreme Court.

If they'll have the honesty to recognize the 2nd Amendment, then...

It's not asinine at all. They got that ball rolling. Perhaps Reid thought they'd control the Senate a long time. Or perhaps he thought the short term gain was worth it.

It's the Dems who have been anti-filibuster. This summer, Barack Obama even implied the filibuster was racist. Several of the Dem primary candidates indicated they'd be for ending all Senatorial filibusters the next time Dems get a majority. McConnell, while you may hate him, has stated unequivocally that the GOP will not do so while they have a Senate majority, because ending the filibuster would handicap Senatorial minorities.

Ending the filibuster is a Dem goal.

That's even more asinine.

When has the Senate not flipped every so often? So you're saying Reid thought it'd be Dem majority for a long time??? That's the BS you're trying to make me buy? Reid knows very damn well the Senate and the House will flip every so often. it actually flips based on who gains the Presidency as the country generally doesn't like a majority in all 3 branches.

The idea of a filibuster in its current form is retarded. You can literally talk BS forever and prevent a vote. Basically you can prevent people from doing their fucking job by continually Bullshitting. I have no problem with real discussion and giving the minority voice an opportunity to speak but there has to a be limit. you can't just filibust all day/night long until the majority capitulates and moves on to the next legislature. That's what Mitch McConnell and his cronies were known for. Yapping incessantly.

Now if you implement a motion that allows the end of the filibuster after a condition has been met (like a simple majority vote after x time) towards a vote (return to 3/5 vote is a pass) then I have no problem with filibusters. The way filibusters are right now all this does is prevent the Senate from doing their job - passing legislatures.

Whoever wins in November will get to pick the replacement. All drama aside, at the end of the day, I think it’s as simple as that.

I'd go with Harry T. Stone personally.

Good! It's necessary with how contested the election will be. Can't have a 4-4 supreme court with an election on the line.

Shouldn't have nuked the fillibuster

Its 5 to 3.

Roberts is a Republican. The most moderate one but he isnt a liberal

lol are you serious now ?

Does roberts vote along party lines? Of course not

We need an odd number of justices for this highly contested election

If Mcconnell does this then the Dems should just add three justices to the court if Biden wins. The Supreme Court is so politicized that trying to make it or keep it unpartisan or above the fray is totally a lost cause at this point in time.

He might be able to. He'd need approval from majorities in both the house and senate, which is likely what will happen in 2021.

It's gonna be tough sell. If they actually manage to get it done though, holy shit. That will be the biggest of feathers in the Republican cap.

It will be a big feather. But the cost will probably be losing the senate and having 13 SCOTUS justices in 2 years.

Of course, this is the pay off that keeps the ultra conservative agenda in play for the foreseeable future

They do need to be careful. If the Dems end up with the House, Senate and Oval office in 2020, there is absolutely nothing keeping them from completely reshaping the court. They could add 6 justices

No. It is like in a marriage. You pay for all transgression eventually. This is a bullshit transgression that will reduce across the aisle co-operation.

There is currently zero.

Its an insurance policy to protect this country from all the insane shit the dems would pass if they swept. Has to be done

Justice Cruz LOOMS.
Having Trump put the snake formerly known as "Lyin' Ted" on the supreme court would be the ultimate way to wrap up 2020.

Of course, now he's "Beautiful Ted," so who knows.
