Hi there,

I just started MMA training and I'm really enjoying it. I figured out which lessons I was going to, when I would do my supplemental strength training etc; I had it all planned out!

But I have picked up two niggly injuries which are really annoying. My knee is bruised and hurts when I put pressure on it to the point where I don't think I can wrestle or do takedowns or anything. It doesn't hurt when I just go about day to day activities but it does hurt when I put pressure on it.

The other issue is with my rib. There is an area of my ribs which hurt when I go in certain positions and it just generally feels sore at times. Neither injuries have me in excruciating pain or anything, but they do hurt when I go in certain positions and are noticeable.

What do you guys think I should do? Have any of you been in a similar situation?

I have literally gone to three MMA lessons and it's so annoying because I just want to go to more but don't want to aggravate my injuries. I did some boxing yesterday and was fine with that, but I suspect that wrestling and MMA classes are going to be painful.

What do you think I should do??

Your ribs are probably fine. But get your knee checked by a real doctor.

Knee pain should be taken serious.

That was also one of my 1st issues when i started training MMA ... i had to wrestle and do JJ with guys 10 and 20 kgs heavier then me ...them fkin guillotines !! and stupid me allways tried to explode my way out !! i remember having neck and back pain and i literally couldnt lay down in bed my tendons and muscles were all sore and overextended ... i had to start doing therapeutic massages , something i never done before and it feels like magic ... i still remember the 1st massage session i went , afterwards i literally couldnt remember where i´d parked the car ... hehehe
Anyways , im talking 2 much
Never neglet ur injuries , like Frode said , get checked by a doctor , rest and heal up , dont force ur training with injuries cause ur risking serious injury... if you can , do some cardio to stay in shape whyle you recover ... dont run cause its worse for ur knee , instead do bicycle or better yet swiming.
Also when you get back to training dont go full on beast mode trying to train 7 days a week 3 to 6 hours per day ...ease your way into training ... your body needs time to adjust to the intensity of training
And if ur serious about it , start thinking about supplements and go to a nutrionist ... youll need a diet regiment
I hope this helps and that there´s nothing serious with ur knee and good luck in training

If there is a small bump or knot on your knee along with the pain, it could be a bursa rupture, which is not so bad. Buy a shooting sleeve. But if there is no noticeable knot or swelling then you should see a doctor and avoid making it worse!

Were you doing leg shots and bouncing off your knees?

Ease up on your knee for a bit and see a dr about it but don't worry about your ribs, its probably just a bruise. If it was anything worse you would know it.
