With my JKD school leaning away from grappling I have been looking for a good BJJ place to supplement my training. I've heard that Mike Rose recently opened a place not to far away. Anyone know anything about Mike Rose or this school?

He's very legit. He appears in the Green Whale promo video. I believe he's a blackbelt under Caique. He's pretty well known in BJJ circles. He posts on www.mma.tv from time to time.

Cool, I'm scheduling a trail lesson to see what the place is like.

If you click on his website address, I swear the logo at the top of the screen appears to be Mike lighting up a cigarette or joint of some kind. Interesting. It's all part of brujojiu-jitsu I guess.

Mike is a great guy. Yeah he's a little out there, into Bob Marley and the guy smoking on some ganja makes people wonder, lol. The term Brujo means Witch Doctor I think. He lived in the Amazon for a year and said he wanted to see what it was like in a non industrialized society. Anyways, we did feature him on our Tools of the Trade 2 DVD and a portion of that was on our promo DVD. <shamless plug!>

He does post in the BJJ forum at mma.tv once in a while so if you had any questions you might reach him there, but honestly, he is really cool so just call the number on the website. He also taught at the R1 gym (formerly known at the rAw gym) so you know he is legit.

I got to roll with him once at a Shawn Williams seminar. It was awesome. Very technical for a big man (he's gotta be like 210 or something but he felt like a ton) I'm pretty sure he has a victory over one of the Gracie boys as brown belts. Not sure if it was Rener or Ryon. He's fought one of them multiple times and it's always close if I remember right. I've rolled with over a dozen black belts and he was definitly legit. Check him out and let us all know how it goes!

The interview Mike gave on Tools of the Trade 2 DVD offers good insight into his head. He likes to trip. and is open to experimentation. He comes across as a smart guy and a talented bjj athlete. He's got an interesting perspective on life.
