A card coming up for those of you in the Midwest.....

Medina, Cordova, Ouali headline!

March 18, 2008

Boxing returns to the Prairie Band Casino in Mayetta Kansas on April 5th as Zeferino Entertainment presents one of its most widely anticipated cards ever featuring the second wave of future stars promoted by Zeferino Entertainment. Although the main event features a familiar face to boxing fans in Kansas in the form of David Medina, many boxing insiders are just as excited about the undercard, which features a world ranked welterweight contender in against a top ranked prospect, and two of the hottest prospects to hit the state in a decade.

For middleweight contender David Medina (17-2, 9 KOs), April 5th will give him the opportunity to claim the vacant WBC USNBC middleweight title against fellow prospect Victor Lares (13-2, 3 KOs). It is a significant fight for Medina for reasons that go beyond the belt. Medina lost the WBC USNBC junior middleweight title in his last fight in Mayetta, losing to Clarence Taylor when he struggled to make weight, a mistake he promises he won't make against Lares.

"You know, the loss to Taylor was really tough, losing in front of his hometown fans," commented promoter Zef Ramirez, "but I have really been impressed at how he has worked to put that loss behind him. He may have learned a tough lesson, but he is a better fighter because of it, and he is determined to show his local fans that he's back."

The Texan Lares may not be the puncher that Taylor was, but he is widely seen as a tough prospect who could give Medina serious trouble with his speed and boxing ability. And with a WBC belt on the line, few question that he will be bringing his "A" game to Kansas.

In the co-main event Zeferino Entertainment newest contender makes his debut under the ZE banner as world ranked Moroccan Said Ouali (22-2, 14 KOs), fresh of his knockout over Sven Paris, takes on the tough journeyman Darien Ford (11-16, 4 KOs) in an eight round fight. Ouali is coming into the ring of the heels of eight straight wins over tough opponents like Grover Weily, Paul Delgado, Mario Ramos, and the aforementioned Paris. In fact, many boxing insiders are predicting a world title fight for the Moroccan before the year is out if he can continue his winning ways against the level of opposition that he has been fighting.

In a feature bout, undefeated Marvin Cordova Jr. (18-0-1, 11 KOs) takes on the ever dangerous TBA in an eight round fight. Also on the card newly signed welterweight prospect Larry Mosley (15-1-2, 6 KOs) will make his debut under the Zeferino Entertainment banner as he takes on the tough Carlos De La Cruz (10-11-1, 5 KOs) in a six round fight. Mosley, who is the cousin of hall of fame welterweight Shane Mosley, has shown flashes of brilliance thus far, with a pair of twelve round fights for the WBO NABO welterweight title in his last two fights as well as impressive wins over prospects Jeremy Yelton and Alexis Divison in 2005.

"I am really excited about Mosley, he has the skills to compete with any welterweight in the world, and in 2008 he is going to be given the opportunity to do just that."

Rounding off the card is a pair of prospects in separate bouts as Nigerian cruiserweight Akinyemi Laleye (7-1, 3 KOs) takes on tough veteran Dan Sheehan (11-36, 5 KOs) in a six round fight and highly touted undefeated prospect Josh Myers (6-0, 6 KOs) takes on a tune-up fight after a short layoff as he takes on Jess Salway (2-9, 0 KOs) in a four round middleweight fight.
