Just thinking about all the elements coming together now at middleweight. After being one of the most shallow divisions for so many years, it might just be the most exciting division in 2014. We have Gegard Mousasi returning from injury, Machida coming down, Jacare surging, Belfort on fire, a resurgent Munoz, the forgotten threat Rockhold and thats just besides Silva and Weidman. So much momentum, so many great potential matches. Really just throw a dart in 2014 for amazing relevant matches.

The thing is, though, for it to truly become great it needs to have guys like that who aren't even in the top 10. It needs hot prospects and crafty vets throughout. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, this is a start.

I agree 2014 will be the best year the UFC MW division hasever had. With Weidman, Silva, Machida, Belfort, Sonnen, Bisping, Jacare, Munoz, Mousasi and Rockhold all just one or two wins from a potential title shot this division should surpass LHW as the second most stacked division in the UFC and might be on a close level to WW. However half of these contenders will probably be irrelevant next year as they all knock each other off.

Don't be surprised if Weidman goes on his own Jones like dismantling of the MW division.

Anderson losing was the best thing that could happen to MW

Well yeah, when LHW's lose a step they drop down to an easier and less demanding division. MW has always been a refuge for bottom half top 10 and mid-low tier LHW's.

It's still not a strong division, but it looks like it will be more competitive. The only regret i have is that this is happening now that Anderson is apparently in his way out.

I actually think there are more interesting matchups with Weidman as Champ than Silva. Plus at least 2 of the guys would not have fought Anderson (Jacare & Machida).

There are definitely some exciting possible fights. Don't fuck it up Joe Silva with your rematch of rematch bs and your horrible style match/fuck ups.

I'd be shocked to see Weidman holding the title at the end of 2014.

I have to agree, even though Weidman is really good.

First he has to beat Anderson, which I don't think he'll do.

Then he probably will fight two of Vitor Belfort, Jacare, and Machida with maybe an outside chance of someone like Rashad Evans squeaking in there. He should be able to wrestle Belfort, but that's definitely not a given.

Jacare and Machida are tough fights for Weidman. I would maybe favor Weidman slightly over Jacare, but both of those fights are pretty much coin flips IMO.

And if Rashad Evans slips in there, that's a tough fight too.

If Weidman can get through Anderson x2, Jacare, Machida, Belfort, Evans though, he'll have compiled a more impressive win list than Anderson Silva has IMO, due to quality over quantity.

A huge factor in why it's happening now is BECAUSE Silva is on his way out. Opportunists see that the belt is no longer held by a seemingly unbeatable champion and they are changing weight classes to take their shot at the much more mortal Weidman.

While I think Silva winning the belt back is a coin toss the fresh wave of competition will make it a rough 2014 for whoever is champion after 12/29.

Ultimately, it's good for the division.

I don't think Mousasi is going to be at MW anymore. I think he wants Bones Jones. I do agree that the MW division is as strong as it has ever been! I like Belcher too if he can stay healthy
