MW division clearly has no contenders right now.
Bisping is such a nice guy, but he isn't and won't be a contender. Belcher and Boetsch were taken off of the prospective list today.
Weidman is totally unproven, he is maybe the better of these names, but still not that great.
The rest was already tooled by Silva.

Besides, none of these fighters has any charisma whatsoever (except for Bisping, maybe), and a champ needs a personality.

So the obvious solution is that Rory MacDonald moves up.
He can beat any of those fighters easily and is the best thing to happen to UFC since Anderson in terms of originality.
Of course, that will happen only after he had Condit, Fitch and Hendricks destroyed. Early 2014 I predict. Unfortunately, he won't fight GSP, let's be realistic here.

Meanwhile Silva can do whatever he wants at MW and then move to LHW.
In fact, I do believe Rory stands a slight chance against Silva, but that would be too risky for Rory, and not good for the sport if Silva loses.

One can say that Machida could possibly be another solution. Indeed Machida would be an easy champion at MW (without Anderson), but Machida has a lot of asses to wreck at LHW, and as for now is the only one who can dethrone Jones.

I'm sorry for posting this even being so new at Sherdog, but I had to. A demand for this needs to be created as soon as possible, in order to rescue MW from damnation.

They haven't had to many contenders ever if you really research it.

    why the middleweight hate?

weidman is one of the most exciting prospects of the past five years.

    costa has proven himself legit.

lombard is still a threat and a fun fighter to watch.

anderson is the most decorated champ in UFC history arguably.

    bisping is legitimate.

vitor still has some gas in the tank.

ummm Lombard, Weidman, Rockhold, Bisping, are all in line or contention for #1 contender spots...not quite doomed. Rory can come up and hang with these boys but he doesn't have near the size or strength advantage that he has at ww if he does.

It seemed better in the past. There were a lot of these "maybe he can beat Anderson" guys.

Well yeah, there are no former champions in a division that has a champion that can hold the belt.

Everyone claims LHW is the best division only because every single fighter is a former LHW champion.

He's still young. In time he'll eventually move up and possibly be champion one day.

What exactly makes you think the MW division is doomed? Just because a lot of guys are equal and there's back and forth wins doesn't mean it sucks. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Rory came up and lost some and won some just like the current MWs. In fact I would love for some top contenders from the higher and lower classes to move to MW just so people can see how MW really is, I bet they wouldn't do much better than current MWs.

Yes, but would be a great deal for him and for MW division, a new, young and performatic champion after years of sameness.

I think at MW you have Anderson, Weidman, Bisping, Okami, Rockhold and Vitor as your top dogs right now. We will see how Jacare does when he comes over. Rashad and Machida would be two guys I wouldbe interested in seeing going down to 185. Shogun would have been another if I didn't think his gas tank was so absolutely horrific that dropping down would mean he wouldn't make it two minutes without gassing.

Rory would be interesting to see, but I doubt he would make a big splash as his stand up has not impressed me greatly, he was losing to Che Mills in his second last fight standing and would not be as big in comparison as he is now at WW. Could make it into the top ten however as I see MW being weak as fuck.
