This might be the most controversial decision of 2021 so far IMHO
Robbery is too strong a word, but I hoped to get more views with a clickbait title like that.

"Lord" Michal Oleksiejczuk

got the decision over

Modestas "The Baltic Gladiator" Bukauskas

which was pretty shocking to me.
I had Modestas winning the first 2 rounds, and Michal winning the 3rd.

Michal was the favorite, Modestas the underdog
Open Closing range Movement

Modestas Bukauskas +139 +135 ... +163

Michal Oleksiejczuk -167 -203 ... -174

I wasn't in the PBP thread tonight, was there any outrage? <KhabibBS>
Or where the guys like <WhatItIs> and kept talking about Stipe vs Francis?

What's interesting are the judges scorecards:
Eric Colon scored it like me: first 2 rounds 10-9 for Bukauskas, 3rd round for Oleksiejczuk.
But Ron McCarthy
& Tony Weeks
both gave Oleksiejczuk the first round 10-9 (and scored the other 2 like Eric Colon)

What's up with that, did anyone here score the first round for Lord Michal?

I mean, if a round had to be controversial, it would have been the second, that most people gave to the Baltic Gladiator, but one could make an argument for a draw since it's a hard one to pick...

As a sidenote, props to Australia's very own Jimmy "The Brute" Crute

for finishing both these guys back-to-back in the first round in 2020.

Sam Greco's protégé is fighting next against Anthony Smith at UFC 261, I really hope this one won't be scraped like Crute's fight against Johnny Walker was...
It was supposed to be happening on this week-end card, but Walker got injured (pectoral muscle tear, aouch...)

Crute is the favorite against "Lionheart" Smith, and at 25 he looks like he could become the first Australian fighter to make Aussies proud in the UFC since Sherdog darling Georges Sotiropoulos and Anthony "The Hippo" Perosh (his KO over Vinny Magalhaes resonnated around the world )

And who knows, Crute might be the first to get a title shot since the King of Rock 'n Rumble himself, Elvis Sinosic challenge Tito Ortiz for the LHW belt.

I love how people think media scores matter.
I never understood it either. Like, either you're a pretty determinant person of "Judges decisions are the only ones that matter," and go by the full result all the time, or you're an idealist who realizes small sample sizes means mistakes are bigger so you get a larger average by taking EVERYONE'S scores, ie the fan scores. Who splits the middle and goes "No, fan scores shouldn't count, but 'Bob Fuckstick's MMA blog' gave that fighter 30-27, and he should know."

The media bums have less MMA knowledge than random shertards. Might as well replace media scores with random shertard scores and you'll get more credibility.
But that's pretty much the point it lets you know the quality of a decision, there are ones where almost everyone agrees and this lets you find outliers on either side.

It was a robbery but there wasn't intense outrage in the PBP considering Bukauskas was moving backwards the entire fight. I picked Bukauskas via KO in round 1 and scored it 29-28 for him but not surprised the inept judges did not score the damage Bukauskas inflicted favorably over the octagon control by Oleksiejczuk.

And yes, *25 yr old Jimmy Crute is a stud, they will be avoiding him like the plague. I've been on that wagon

First round I gave it to Bukauskas. In the 2nd round I had Michal winning, however Bukauskas had a late flurry that made the round very tough to score, which could've went either way. I had a slight edge in favor of Michal. In the 3rd, clear round for Michael. Overall, I scored it 29-28 for Michal and agree with the official decision.

it lets you know the quality of a decision
No, not really. If you want to know the quality of a decision, you either sample over a large fan population or you adhere to the opinion of some universally recognized expert. These media personas don't have more credibility than your average sherdogger, so what happens is that instead of adhering to the decisions of 3 judges with questionable MMA knowledge you're adhering to the decisions of a small number of people whose MMA knowledge is just as questionable. In other words: MMA media is not representative of the fanbase's consensus, it represents the opinions of a small number of people with no authority and no universally recognized expert credentials.

If you want the fanbase's opinion, you have to do a large poll.

Ya this was the wrong decision imo. Walking someone down does not mean you're winning.

100% correct. MO was continually walking forward but was getting continually picked off. Bukauskas was always the fighter doing the damage - even in the second - and that’s what the judges are supposed to be scoring.

The Maverick fight was another case in point. Her opponent may have had lots of top control in the second but fortunately on this occasion, two of the judges recognised that Miranda was the only one doing damage.

Terrible decision. Bukauskas cleary won rounds 1 + 2, outstruck him, hurt him, landed the harder punches. Third round was around even.
Worse commentary. Especially from Rogan. He was so bad, riding Michal's dick while he gets beat up.

2 judges had the first round for Michal. Maybe they didn't know which fighter was Michal. Just like Rogan for the first 2 rounds

I have no idea who either of these guys are really. No fan bias. I thought Bukaduajashs won by a tiny margin because he score more cleaner shots n seemed to stagger the other guy a few times, but i could see why the judges gave it to Oleikkvdsnskaqo guy because he was more aggressive and was walking him down.
