Michael Johnson dropped Usman in sparring

There was a vid of them sparring years ago. Yet another example of a LWs superiority over a top WW in a long list of them. Justin also broke his nose and journeyman LW Burns dropped him too.

Prime Michael Johnson was no joke. Went to war in 29-28 FOTN with Nate. Beat Tony, Dustin, Edson. Prime Michael has a good shot at beating prime Conor. It'd be a battle but inb4 Conor shoots.

Its hard to believe fighters (and their coaches) are dumb enough to allow sparring hard enough to drop each other -- basically they're losing their ability to take hard punches (ie cumulative neurological damage and brain tissue scarring), and they're doing it for free. I recall at least boxing coaches saying you never take a hard hit to the head unless you're being paid for it (that is, in the ring for a fight, not in sparring unless you're a sparring partner being paid to be hit hard). You don't build up tolerance to being hit hard by taking hard head shots, you lose tolerance -- all the medical research now shows this. So why in the world are they hitting each other hard in practice? Are they being paid under the table by opponents to weaken the other guy before their next fight?

Getting hit hard in competition is part of the sport. Getting hit hard in practice is stupid. Its why teammates don't take superstars like Crosby or McDavid hard into the boards in hockey practice, and why defensive linemen don't tackle Tom Brady hard in practice -- coaches would cut players who intentionally injured teammates in practice.

I'll never understand the Usman hate. Guy is respectful and doesn't talk shit but yet peoples are still shitting on him. He's even more hated than Colby although that last is alwaws talking shit <JagsKiddingMe>
I don't hate on Usman, he is just boring and copies other fighters swag. I cannot stand Conor, but Usman copies him a lot, and all of Conman's swag is plagiarised, so that makes Marty even worse.

In a fight Usman would destroy him obviously

Lmfao at using Silva as an example. Guy lost his chin in training because of his ego. He got involved in too many gym wars against guys like Big Nog.

MJ did learn from Usman. Not everyone can go undefeated regardless of who they train with.
Lost his chin? Seriously

Your not even trying lmao

it isn't hate

it's secretly wishing he'd stop being schizo so that he can become the guy people like

less cringe going around the better

Most people acknowledge MJ was vastly better than his record would indicate, but those Gym wars didn't do him any favors, especially being the smaller man and absorbing the kind of punishment he did.

Too many gym wars and not enough actual evolution in his game, if he was consistently evolving and adding to his game he really could've beaten at least half the guys he lost to. Imagine being around Usman and instead of learning as much wrestling technique possible, you go tooth and nail to kill each other smh.

Usman needed that "bite down on your mouthpiece grit" as he wasn't an experienced striker, he took those experiences and accomplished everything he ever wanted. On the other hand look at MJ, he really wasn't getting shit from those wars except more damage and ego. Now he's damn near a .500 fighter, you have to make good choices if you wanna be successful long term.

The guys who know how to control their ego go far, that's something that GSP, Jones, Fedor, and Silva all had in common. When they were coming up they knew how to play their part. Even though Jones was arguably the best guy at Jacksons, he wasn't trying to one up Rashad and embarrass him, he learned a lot from Rashad. Silva was considered the most skilled fighter at Chute Boxe, and you'd never know by the way he praised his teammates. GSP was a great teammate by all accounts and learned from his mistakes, never thought he was too good to learn something new. All the greats were that way at some point.
Jesus. You're such a wise guy, bro.

Absolute truth in your post.

Beautifully said and well written!

MJ was solid in his prime but Khabib and Gaethje fuckin ruined him

Yeah they also learned how to enhance without getting caught until they did

MJ always had stupid power. Hardest hitting LW just behind Gomi and Chandler IMO

Michael Johnson has always been able to beat, or lose to, anyone on any given night.

Doesn't surprise me he caught Usman, he has fast hands. Now if you said he outwrestled Usman I'd really be shocked.

Mj was a great fighter and had what it took to be championship material. I think while his hands developed well with the blackzillians he hit a wall with skill development big time. Wish he would have gone with a coach like Jason Parillo or Trevor witman after the blackzillians crumbled. But ya, after the loss to nate his career was pretty much all down hill

I’ve watched footage of mj going way to hard in sparring way to often. There is a reason he crapped out and was inconsistent

because that's called schizophrenia

time to recollect your thoughts and finish the shrink my dear

That is NOT what schizophrenia means man.

Also there is a bigger speech to be made about personality even existing how we see it, people change all the time and actions for the most part are defined by your context (e.g. crying at funerals, drinking in bars, walking with a cart in a supermarket) and history, as in results of your past actions. We do not think independently and assuming there's one set of characteristics that is unique to you and defines you is very hard to argue and prove. In a way we could be defined by values and tastes (or what activities we like to ve engaged in) but they also change a lot.
Many times people just look at what responses and behaviours do remain consistent and point to that as personality, but it's still a post-hoc definition and with little theoretical base.
There are big-5 (traits: openness, conscentiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, neuroticism) tests and tons of literature on that, but I find them flawed to the eye test and follow-ups: people usually use fewer characteristics to define themselves, and at the same time people with similar results end up behaving very differently. Also they're usually self reports, and may end up telling more about one's self esteem or values and desires than their behaviour.

It's by no means a settled argument and there are many many psychologists who DO think personality is measurable and unique so you'll have to make up your mind on that.
