Media Michael Chandler: Charles Oliveira ‘Probably the Scariest Opponent I’ve Ever Faced’

Chandler forgot he fought Patricio and Eddie when he was 22-2

And people forget that Gilbert Burns, a much more accomplished bjj specialist is a chandlers friend and teamate. I think Chandler will be more than ready to stop Oliveira.

Its a fair assessment and I'm excited for the fight. Rooting for Charles personally.
They both seem like good dudes. It’s hard to root against either man for me. If I was forced to root for one, itd probably be Charles as well.

Ya I dont think grappling is an obvious path to victory for Charles against Mike. If Charles was fighting Justin, on the other hand...

Oliveira is so overrated at the minute

Hope I'm wrong because I love his BJJ, but he's just had good matchups recently, he's not THAT much better than he used to be
he is the best lightweight on the planet imo
neither conor, poirer or gaethje will be able to beat him
his stand up is good enough to hold his own against these guys (unlike khabib)
and his ground game is one of the best in the world

BJJ credentials aren't the same as effectiveness in MMA submissons. Oliveira has a lot more submissions in MMA and a lot higher rate of wins by submission than Burns. And the idea that a certain training partner will always get a fighter ready for their opponent has been disproven many times. For example, Gaethje was training with Usman before the Khabib fight and people thought that meant he wouldn't get taken down or outwrestled.

Not related to this thread really but just watching the countdown episode and I had no idea Chandler had an adopted son. That is awesome, respect to Chandler for taking on that responsibility. Makes me feel bad for rooting for Charles lol

True, but chandler only need to avoid takedowns and he is a wrestler. Like I said before, one punch in the torso and charles will break. Chandler is only training sub defense.

Have to disagree. He's MUCH improved. The old Aloe Vera was inconsistent, couldn't put long win streaks together, had little to no heart. I think even the fading version of Tony he fought would have finished the old Aloe Vera. Granted, he didn't fight Tony or Kevin Lee at their best, and Lee is a bit inconsistent himself, but he just wasn't beating guys like that back in the day. They would have wrecked him. He's got a LONG win streak going now and when he got a step up in competition, he rose to the occasion, which he could never do before.

WAR do Bronx!!

This guys, ugh, i cant stand his interviews. They all seem forced and fake. His fights arent boring, but for god sake, enough of this gremlin on the microphone.

I'm not sure about that. I know Pitbull made short work of Chandler, but he's gone to 5-round decisions and SDs with lesser fighters than Chandler or the current Oliveira....including a fighter who just lost to Sergio Pettis. This is the same Sergio who went 2-3 in his last 5 UFC fights.
What I’m trying to get at is that of all the fighters Chandler has faced, I think Pittbull is the best in a holistic sense. He’s really good everywhere, and he doesn’t have any obvious weaknesses. I’m not saying he’s a perfect fighter, but I think he’s a tougher guy to game plan for than Oliveira.

Oliviera pieces up pitbull.[/QUOTE
How so? There’s very little tape of anybody piecing up Pittbull, but there’s a LOT out there of Oliveira getting tapped and napped.

Maybe. But Oliveira's stand-up is improving, and I think he may outpoint Chandler on the feet if there's not an early KO. If that happens, Chandler will have to decide if he wants to risk spending a lot of time on the ground or keep going for a KO.

Oliviera is a glass cannon. He will either looks spectacular and get a finish most likely or if a guy lands anything or gives him trouble he can’t overcome it.

it’s not a dig at him. Win or lose he’s exciting and I’ll ignore the times he just quit.
In mma it’s acceptable so it’s seek and destroy and if that doesn’t happen find the softest spot to lay down.

I don't know why everyone's so excited for the 2nd best LW from Bellator to be in the UFC. Yes, he looked impressive in his last fight. But let's say he somehow ends up champ...isn't there kind of a dark cloud hanging over the belt then? Knowing full-well there's a guy that beats him in another organization?

I don't know, more power to him I guess. But me, I'll be pulling for Olive.

Oliviera has better kicks, but if chandler closes in tight he will be better, faster and stronger. I don't think he needs the takedown and I don't think oliviera can take him down outside of a nice trip.

I'd like to see oliviera pull it off but I think chandler will have his number. Love to be wrong tho

Oliviera is good almost everywhere but I don't think he can handle the grind, his not going to go in a back and forth with chandler he'll break first I don't think I've see oliviera fight through adversity or won a war most fights he wins are pretty one sided which speaks to his skills too.
