With The Phantom Pain less than two weeks away and with the brainchild of the series and greatest video game director of all time leaving after it's release I figured we could discuss which is our favorite MGS title and moments

Really Really underrated game imo

It's a really tough choice for me because I love every one of these games, but I'll go MGS 1 nothing beats the nostalgia of that game.

Edit: my bad meant to post this thread in the Video Games forum

Nearing the end of the game
Eli took Sahelanthrapus and the kids in one of my choppers, and now the vocal infection is back on motherbase, now I'm gonna do the mission where Snake goes in solo to investigate or someshit.

Been trying to do all the side ops before finishing the main story because usually for me when it comes to these types of games with tons of side missions, the story is the main motivation for me, side missions need to be all done before I finish the main story or else I have little to no motivation to keep doing them after the story is over, but looks like I'm nearing the end.

Peacewalker was probably the most fun i've ever had in video gaming. Nothing in the franchise exists in a vacuum, so really it's just... the totality of it all.

Mods, don't move this. This is important.

So hyped

Is there any point of using another staff member for side ops/missions other than the trophy reward? Since I have a few s++ combat soldiers and they have better combat skills than Snake, but lack all the special abilities

Damn, I was pretty much done with MGSV but now looks like I may need to go back so I can complete that mission and then get Quiet back. Konami why you gotta release this patch when all these other games come out?

Btw I was playing Battlefield 4 with my friend and someone was using voice chat on our team. Her voice sounded familiar and after like 5 minutes I said to my friend "dude, that's Paz!"

She sounded just like her, it was pretty funny. Many lulz

I used to think it hopefully improved some of your combat unit that needed it(it still might). If it doesn't improve them then I really don't see the point in using them.

Finally put this down to play Fallout 4. Going to stick with my 9/10 rating and game of the year so far for me. My biggest complaint isn't the story but the repetitive side missions, seems like they could have been a little more creative than just recycling them over and over again. Yet they were still fun because of all the different ways you can play the game.

The first game was best. Followed by 3+4. Then 2. Then the new stuff.

I did some free roaming with an E level combat soldiers and she did everything as well as Snake, so I guess the rank only improves your unit

Finished the game minus two missions.

MGSV is an amazing achievement in gaming in a lot of ways, but.... boy the ending was lame. And the rehash levels were weak. And no boss fights.

Went from a 10/10 to an 8.5 for the above reasons.

Let Kojima complete the ending and five or so more original levels to wrap up the story and it would have been so much more satisfying.

I lost Quiet, which sucked bigtime. Thankfully it was so close to the end. I did get the birthday surprise scene yesterday, and it was the first I had heard of it. Let me say that it was a fucking awesome surprise!

One more thing, I still can't figure out why Ocelot was so different in V... he went from an insane sadist to an all around good dude. What gives?

Using a staff member increases their morale, thus increasing their skills. Biggest problem seems to be that they are lacking the bionic arm and everything it boosts.

Isn't he completely out of the action during the game? he's only training the soldiers at motherbase right?

Dude's pretty chill in MGS1 when he's just talking to liquid. plus in V Isn't he playing Venom to make him believe he's BB and he's on his side? I've onljy just got to Afghanistan but after already knowing the ending, the way he's speaking to Venom seems like it.

But i don't know anything about his interactions with the rest of them.

I was shocked by how great Peace walker was when I finally got to play it as part of the HD collection, I expected it to be a good game, but I did not expect it to be one of the greatest games I ever played

Beat mission 45, classic Metal Gear moments in that mission, was left a bit confused so if anyone can clear that up would be appreciated (without finale spoilers cuz I haven't beaten it yet, though I am VERY close, I think 1 more mission to go, not counting side ops and duplicates)

So I went to find Quiet and in true Kojima fashion shit got crazy, dude tried to rape her and she went ape shit on everyone, them Kojima action scenes are always enjoyable. Stabbing dudes in the dick  and fucking shit up. Anyways the following battle was fucking bullshit, died like 7 times because I wasn't properly equipped for multiple fucking tank battles so I had to call in my heavy loadout, then kept running out of ammo, then had to call in my armor suit, probably would have been better off just starting the mission over with the heavy weapons, but meh whatever.

Anyway, the cutscenes and shit that follow were manly feels moments, Quiet unable to move, they almost got caught and Snake took that venom bite from the cobra and stuff. Here's what I'm a bit confused about though, so Quiet took a vow of silence in order to not kill snake and motherbase with the English strain, that's why she struggled to decide whether she wanted to speak english or not to the chopper.

Doesn't that mean that the virus got out the second she spoke english though? Isn't Snake fucked now? If it involves spoilers from the ending, don't tell me, but if its just something I missed then clarification from someone who fully understood it would be appreciated. Awesome mission though and moments, I thought for sure Quiet was gonna kill herself after she spoke and disappeared, I thought snake would find her dead.

I see only 1 final mission on the main mission list, but I'm gonna save that for tomorrow, gonna beat the rest of the duplicate missions, then the finale. Gonna be sad finishing the final Kojima MGS game.

That's one of the biggest questions of the one character that's origin is in the first game (MGS3) and makes his final appearance in the last game (MGS4). He's an arrogant teenager in his first appearance, to being the overall villian of the series.

But in MGS5, which takes place in the middle of the chronological series, he's the voice of reason among an erratic cast of characters.

Whenever I play this game, I'm planning on skipping every cutscene without Quiet. I already watched a youtube movie of the game's story, and I'm not impressed.

First game was definitely the best one. Then, Snake Eater.

Oh and I beat the Quiet sniper battle on Extreme, she one hit kills you and is a lot faster and trickier than before. Died a few times before I got the hang of it and a little help from the strategy guide, not gonna lie, though I really didn't use any tactics from it, just gave me my own idea and it worked. Cool intense battle, unlocked the Sniper Wolf outfit for her too.

Yeah, i think it has the best... atmosphere... if that makes sense. But every one of these games is perfect.

I don't think the parasites symptoms affected her quick enough to be able to infect Snake while she called in the chopper. She got out of there pretty quick after her deed was done.

Hmmm....maybe so, but does that mean she is fucked now? Since she spoke english does it mean the parasite is gonna end up killing her? Meaning the whole infiltrating motherbase was basically a kamikaze attack?

Yeah that was the end of Quiet. Shit nearly had me in manly tears during the credits of that mission :icon_cry2 and yeah her infiltrating motherbase was basically a kamikaze attack originally until she ended up catching feelings for Snake which made her switch sides and join Motherbase forreal.

I remember not liking the changes made in peace walker when I first started playing it, and then completely falling in love with the game

yeah I thought so, still thought she was gonna do herself in instead of waiting for the infection to take effect, though maybe she does it "off camera" if you will. Though now that I think about it, why did she leave motherbase and allow herself to get captured in the first place? Also, do I get her back after the endgame (usually games revert to a certain point earlier after you beat them), because I unlocked her sniper wolf outfit and never got to use it, lol.

I forget the story behind it but the people she let herself get captured by were people she wanted revenge against for some reason. Unfortunately you have to do something with the butterfly emblem before you start the side mission to find her and that will allow you to keep her as a buddy after she's gone. If you did that then kudo's. I didn't and will probably have to play through the whole game again if I want to have her as a buddy since you can't redo side missions.

Not gonna lie due to the lack of info in the beginning i wasnt really looking forward to MGO, but now im really fucking excited. This looks like one of the more interesting online multiplayer concepts we have seen in a while. And it looks like theres a ton of customization options too which is good to see

Metal gear on PS1. it wasn't my first go around with Snake but that shit in the cell spilling Ketchup to simulate blood and choking the guy out and escaping was awesome. I also for some reason dickishly choked out Merle several times too and she would cry "Why, Snake, Why?".

Hahahaha good times! Great thread.

Yeah fuck you Konami. I hope your casino and portables ventures go bust. Release the workers you slave drivers.

Seriously, Fuck Konami. This is an in depth article with links. Well worth reading if you haven't already.

I think you have to buy international waters or whatever it's called for 1000+ credits...pretty sure they want us to pay for the online PVP other than the FOB stuff

Snake Eater was my favorite. The only MGS game that I did a complete stealth play through. No kills either. The camouflage system was fun too.

Agh, no fucking way? Damn, wonder what it is, gonna have to look it up. That's gonna suck if I didn't do it.

MGS1 > MGS3 > MGS2 > MGS4 > Peace Walker/Portable Ops

I thought Peace Walker sucked ass, and MGSV seems so be a more ambitious version of that. I also think the series' canon has accumulated an absolutely comical amount of baggage which makes it difficult for the story to be enjoyable or even sensical. I'm cautiously excited for MGSV, Ground Zeroes didn't sway me very much either way.

Don't know how I feel about MGO, I didn't really like it in MGS4, but I'll give it a shot in MGS5. Though I'm not a big online gamer so probably wont keep my attention for long.

I think Peace Walker had the overall best game design. As in, it was more "game" than a linear campaign type of experience. It was more focussed on gameplay than the traditional MGS titles. It's a bit jarring at first, but once you "get it" it's highly addictive. Lot's of stuff to do, with each gameplay element working beautifully to bring the whole package together. A truly remarkable accomplishment, considering it's a PSP game. Only problem is that it can get unforgivingly tough if you're playing solo, as it was designed as a co-op game.

That said, MGS3 is tops for me. That campaign is my favorite in all of videogames. Probably the only game where I legit teared up at the end. I think the gameplay is also the strongest of all the titles. The Boss characters weren't the best, but the battles with them were awesome. The sequence at the end with Col Volgan(? Think that's his name. Been a while) is the very definition of epic.

Bought this today, got through the intro, took a long nap, and got to I think..mission 8? I'm honestly loving it so far, though I'm getting frustrated because I'm putting too much emphasis on using the Fulton and its getting me in trouble.

Got the dog though!

It took me a while to adjust to peace walker, but when I did I ended up loving it. The story is one the the main reasons I love the games and honestly MGS2 was the only one that left me scratching my head when I first beat it

You need to use a butterfly on your emblem or keep her bond level under a 100, that way the quiet will never leave but you also wont get a the mission to get her back, so you can't get 100% completion

I had a strangely hard time picking my favourite. They're all so fucking good. I went with Snake Eater, but it's probably tied with MGS.

I can't friggen wait for Sept 1st.

Oh.. and fuck Konami.

The simple fact that MGS5 plays like a competent action game should help a lot, as long as the online infrastructure is decent.
4 played better than the earlier games, but it still didn't play great when you weren't sneaking.

Haha I bought a PS4 and a new TV mostly just because MGS 5 is coming out. All in all, about $1000 worth for it, although it will have plenty of other uses as well, of course. That just shows how much I love the games.

Maybe Snake Eater was the best, the story and setting was so beautiful. MGS 4 was great as well. MGS 2 was the first one I played and I loved it.

Thanks for the reply, so then that means you never get to see how the Quiet thing played out? Mission 45 and all that? That's kinda bullshit honestly, I was hoping after beating the game it would revert to an earlier point in the game (but still recognizing that you beat the game) and give you Quiet back and anything you lose at the end of the game. Permanently losing a buddy when you payed a shitload of GMP to upgrade her is kinda fucked. Still got 1 more mission to go, really holding out on it and doing as many side ops as I can.
