Merkel Orders New Lockdown: 82 Million people directly affected

Let me spell this shit out so people understand.

You. Can. Not. Stop. A. Virus.
You. Can. Not. Stop. A. Virus.

You attempt to mitigate it, learn to live with it, and create a vaccine. That's it. The fact that people believe they can "lock-down" this shit out of existence is mind numbing fuckery.

When the vaccine has rolled out, you’ll be able to look back on the response and judge how successful each country was. The key areas of concern will be number infected as a percentage of the population, number dead as a percentage of the population, economic contraction, and unemployment rate. Any other metrics you’d like to add?

She can’t lock down the virus and make it disappear, but she can implement a long term response in Germany that works better against any meaningful measure of success or failure than other western countries.

What makes you think the vaccine will end the pandemic?

Government doesn't even need to pass laws anymore or adhere to their countries rule of law, politicians can just make their own rules on a whim. Gotta love it.

The West is getting frighteningly close to becoming China. You guys are going to give away everything civilization has scratched and clawed for over thousands of years. I honestly can't believe this is happening, and that people have let it happen so easily.

You're an expert on German laws and what the government can and cannot do?

The only measure that would even come close to working is a full lockdown where no one gets to leave their house for the next three months. Otherwise, it's just half-measure bullshit with the appearance of a response.

Almost every Western nation has engaged in this nonsense in one way or another. I admittedly don't know what the Germans can do, but if this is acceptable, then they are essentially a dictatorship.

It will reduce infection rate substantially and likely reduce the seriousness of infection where it’s not 100% effective. Thats what vaccines do, so when we get one, it’s just time to rollout.

It will be controlled first in the western world, since that’s who paid for the vaccine, might still qualify as a pandemic longer than we’d like as it slow burns through the global south into 2022.

None of this has been voted by the Parlament. They are all decrees.

Kind of like executive orders that haven't been voted by the congress? Do you have anything to show these decrees in Germany lack legal merit?

Ok, but if that half measure saves 100k lives and her economy isn’t any worse off than anybody else’s, she’s a hero at the end of this. Assuming no government can make the virus go away, governments can still organize a response that provides the best balance of outcomes.

No. She's an authoritarian, not a hero. Closing down entire countries over a virus is silly arrogance. It's human hubris, believing they can outsmart a virus. These same types will convince you they can stop the sun from exploding in a few billion years as well. It's nonsense. Take precautions and go about your fucking life.

I understand.

<23>

Lots of countries are doing better b/c without locking down but still not giving up, such as Canada and Japan.

Not sure why you're focusing on belgium. Why not Taiwan?
