Remember when this guy was one fight away from a Lightweight title shot? What the hell happened? Is it just harder competition? or something else?
The guys just has really pore fight IQ. He finds ways of losing in situations where he is a punch or two from victory. He also can't handle pressure very well, which is apparent in how many rash decisions he makes in the cage when someone is putting the pressure on him. I think if he saw a sports psychologist and really tried to address that obvious problem he would do much better.
He's too cocky and doesn't think about what he's doing in there. Doesn't seem like he takes the fight seriously Explosive athletes
This. It's frustrating to see a talented guy like Melvin lose after getting so close to winning a fight. He was COCKY as hell against Lauzon: came in with his hands down and got finished Floored Jim Miller but he kept going for the damn flying knees and was timed for a takedown almost had Cerrone but let his focus down and got KOed Also he needs to keep improving his BJJ....getting subbed too easily
dudes like the brother of melvin manhoef. love both of em, really exciting to watch, but never reached their full potential. pretty sad. At least manhoef won his Dream 18 fight with Dennis Kang.
This is nothing new with Melvin he's always been up and down. Melvin has some clear explosive speed and strength but he always "looked" better than he really was. He can crush cans but I've never been impressed with him against top 10 fighters.
Melvin is cocky. And because of that has a very poor fight IQ. He has a lot of talent and is very athletic, but he doesn't put it to good use at all.
There are ways to criticize Melvin's fight IQ without being overtly racist. This is not one of them. Anderson Silva, Daniel Cormier, Jon Jones: 3 of the top 10 fighters in the world. Imagine how good they'd be if they had good fight IQ.
Started fighting better fighters , Melvin is the type that his confidence either seems real high or low there is no inbetween
... Um wow Anyway, Melvin's fight style relies on his confidence. The Lauzon fight took a huge chunk out of that confidence that I dont see him regaining
