Kevin and Mark, German twins. Born December 1989, living in the Ruhr Area.

Both made their Abitur (highest school graduation in Germany, allows you to go to University). Mark went to the Bundeswehr and went on a tour in Afghanistan. Kevin studied Law at University.

Two perfect kids, as German as it gets.

In late 2012, they convert to Islam.

In spring 2015, they blow themselves up as suicide bombers for Daesh.

IMO it shows that Arabs are not the main issue with regard to terrorism. Islam per se is not, either. There are enough reasons to criticize Islam, but the main issue is that there are people who turn other people into active Daeshbags. Hate preachers in mosques and on YouTube. These people need to be eliminated where possible.

Young men are often easily influenced, regardless of test scores and grades.

Actually I think of you consider the profile of many terrorists, these are not dimwits. These are basically intelligent people, but once their originally 'normal' world view is turned upside down, intellectual consistency forces them to act on it, I would assume.

Was there any explanation for why they would choose radical Islam and suicide bombings?

People who do these things I would guess are pretty convinced of something.

Yeah, it's pretty weird. It's insane how smart people are still dumb enough to fall for this stuff.

They converted to Islam and then they blew themselves up on a suicide mission for Daesh . Islam has a disproportionate # of hate preachers .

This is going to cause the xenophobes' minds to explode.

Not even debating that. It's just that there are 1.59 billion Muslims not attacking other people over their belief, so saying Islam as such - for all its more than evident shortcomings - causes terrorism is not a valid explanation.

smh...there's something fundamentally flawed with the youth of today. It's frowned upon to be patriotic or have some sort of national pride. The hashtags feelings brigade have turned what used to be acceptable into taboo's. And God help you if go against their tyrannical tolerance rulebook.

I get what you mean but it is poorly explained . There are many Muslims that aren't a problem , but you cannot forget that of all religions it has the most disproportionate amount of trouble makers . Therefore it seems there is some problem with Islam in some way.

Had Kevin and Mark not joined Islam they probably wouldn't have blown themselves up so i dont understand why you are using their story for example to prove there is nothing wrong with Islam . It seems you did so to point out that they are White and trying to make this a one race is not worse than another race issue because you expect a backlash against typical brown looking muslims and this was your way of saying that white people do it too .

Actually these two likely were patriotic. One of them served his country in war. The other studied Law, which is full of quite conservative and rather nationalistic students in my experience.

For moment I saw something else in this quote.

I separated my opinion from the OP for a reason - I think the story as such is interesting enough too.

The point is, looking outside our borders to Syria or Saudi Arabia or looking inwards but only focusing on existing Muslims / Arabs may not even do the trick. We have people we would never expect converting and dying for Daesh.

Young men want "their fight", and in the West it's simply too comfortable for them. There is no "meaning" in a whitebread comfortable life, there is no "struggle".

Well, as long as they didn't take anyone else with them I'm good with this.

Just not true.
Sunni vs. Shia where ever they live together
Christian, Jews and any other religious Minority in every Muslim Majority Country
Copts in Egypt

U ever tried to run around with a Kippah in Berlin?

Groups like daesh and al qaeda are absolute pros at finding the weak links in our societies and exploiting them. Like any cult, they've developed and perfected systems for zeroing in on troubled people at the perfect time when they are most susceptible, and swooping in and brainwashing them. That's why you see so many occurrences where someone goes from being a seemingly normal member of society to blowing themselves up a year or two later.
