This is a repost because it makes more sense here.
Also, there's quite a few white boys on this forum who probably are sick of getting checked. Who can blame them?

A jab really needs to be flicked out there. The best way to visualize this is to imagine you're blindly walking through a dark basement and you don't want to walk through spider webbing.... you're clearing a path.

In a world where female grapplers are looking to make a name by snapping every bone on a boxer's body it's pretty good to have this tool in your kit just in case you find yourself in a compromising situation.

Just remember: it's got be thrown like a piston firing. 4 stroke... not a 2, ya cheapskate!

You want to look ALOT like this when your jab is poked out there.
Turn your head alittle too, off center... like this guy. It's pretty bad ass and it gets your point across pretty effectively.

It might make sense, but looking at the target of your jab is just dumb.

You have to have your arms flexed pretty intensly too. There's nothing more laughable than a skinny, wimpy, gangly Tommy Hearns jab being flicked out there.

It's the first thing I do when I get in the elevator at work.

I don't know who half of these people in there are. So what do I do? I let them know I'm kind of a physical threat to them.
I shadow box a bit.... punch the jab right into thin air. Snap it back like a rubber band.

I like to hire people to hold a squirt bottle set to mist when i shadow box. I also spend a lot of money on baby oil, my chesticles need to be glistening at all times even when i wear a sweater

Peppering jab not just flicking it out there.

Oscar had a great jab, Shane would flick it but not really use it.

I hate to over simplify things, but the key to the jab, in my opinion, is to constantly change speeds. Some people are gifted with ko power on their jabs. For those of us who aren't, the jab is as important for defense as offense. It's not just about getting inside or setting up other punches. It's about disrupting your opponent. I see it like a baseball pitcher. You change speeds to keep your opponent off balance, and they can't time you. Even if you change the sequence and angles, if you don't mix up your fastball and change up, you're going to get countered.

One of the more intriguing jab fests was Ike Quartey vs. Jose Luis Lopez.

Quartery was a jab machine. But Lopez rarely used his, but when he did it was so effective. The element of surprise, mixing it up, was brilliant.

    Exactly.

Watch, now some clown will start blabbin' about Holmes, like his slappy half-jab was worth something. Happens every time somebody posts a good jab thread. Holmes always looked like he could have used a lot more jab work to me. Just to educate him on the basics of how to pepper a jab. How to really snap off a jab and pepper with it---like you mean business in there.

    It's a lost art.

Is it important to set the tone of a conversation with piston jab or a peppering jab?

True story here. I work at a front desk of a hotel. I got a talking to about shadow boxing and beat boxing at the front desk during work.
    Apparently that is frowned on.
