Sky Sports is like the Fox Sports of the UK (actually have the same owner) who unlike Fox Sports, pay very little attention to MMA (don't even have an MMA section on their website) yet coverage of this story is currently on their Boxing homepage.

So if getting attention from mainstream media outlets was the intention of McGregor & Dana then they're definitely having some success.

It's taken out of context. Being able to "kill Mayweather" is not what McGregor was trying to emphasize, it's that he wants to be an expert at everything, and not just a striking specialist. Basically, he would kill Mayweather, despite Mayweather being so good at boxing, therefore he himself needs to be an expert at everything in order to be the best MMA fighter out there.
