Fllowing his first loss in 15 fights, Conor McGregor looked pensive as he contemplated the series of steps that led to the massive upset at Saturday night's UFC 196 show. His debut at welterweight was anything but a success, as he struggled with Diaz's height, reach, and ability to take power punches with ease.

However, despite the loss, McGregor is confident that he would have beaten lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos had the original main event remained intact.

"If the fight was what it was supposed to be, I would have come out victorious," McGregor told ESPN's Todd Grisham. "It is what it is."

According to McGregor, had he hit a fighter like featherweight Frankie Edgar or the lightweight champ, they would have crumbled as his previous opponents did.

"They fall, 100 percent. Nate is a completely different fighter. "

McGregor suffered a second round submission loss to Diaz in the evening's main event. The finish occurred shortly after former champ Holly Holm was choked unconscious in the fifth round of her co-main event title fight against Miesha Tate.

I am not sure RDA and his reconstructed chin could have taken those shots Nate took in round 1. I tend to believe Conor here.

you tell em conor. dont let the nutfleas bring ya down.

I love Conor, but he would die against Dos Años
He has no Takedown defense and no jiu jitsu game at all
he was pressured in the clinch by a physically weak nathan diaz
imagine what a strong RDA would do to him

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, yada yada yada...

I loved all the ifs in his post fight interview, if I did this, if this happened, if I fought this guy, if, if, if. Humble my ass.

no conor. you're not getting a shot at that belt. we all know what your motives are now. stay at 145 and defend it a few times or go up and rack some wins at 155 before talks of challenging for the belt. it's for your own good.

If he did not lose, he would be the winner.

wolda shoulda coulda

lol @ "no conor your not getting a shot at the belt"

wtf do you know? you think RDA doesnt want that pay day when he gets well? you think he or dana cares about wether he deserves it or not?

If If If.

If he were more humble, I'd be a fan. But obviously he never learned manners growing up.

He defended 3 takedowns from chad, got, off his back in that fight, & reversed nate in the first round. He's got average TDD & bjj.
Also I don't believe Rda would have survived that first round.

They're completely different fighters. RDA is shorter and a much shorter reach than both McG and Diaz, definitely a fight I still want to see. The Diaz fight doesn't change much.

Sometimes guys can take everything you can dish out and more. You can't stop everyone. Recognize . fight accordingly.

Full camp Mendes would molest efficient conor

I doubt RDA can handle his left.
