Why would a champion actually defend his belt? They can now just take fights in other weight classes and continue to be billed as a "champion". Precedent has been set.

Mayweather made $200 million as a fighter (not even counting promoter money cause he's his own promoter) for show money in one fight. Conor can sell everything he's made or going to make and I doubt he even adds up to $25 mil.
