McDonald and BK Going on Strike Today

Maybe another dollar or 2 since they have to deal with obese ghetto ppl daily but definitely not 15.

Good for them. Minimum wage is supposed to be a livable wage and there is no way in hell you can live off that in the bay area.

Thats what the Dems are telling you which is a lie since thats their base. Minimum wage is entry level meant for HS kids and college students and is not meant to be a living wage.

You've been fed a load of bull.

It's an absolute joke that an employee can work a full 40 hour week, and still qualify for government assistance. If you raise the minimum wage to something approaching a living wage, they won't qualify for all the benefits that are funded by YOUR tax dollars.

So, keep minimum wage low and incur costs continuously

OR

Raise minimum wage, and POSSIBLY incur a SLIGHT increase when using services provided by local minimum wage workers.

Kids with their bum degrees working in Maccie Ds going on strike.

Whilst in Turkey strikes after 282 skilled miners die due to catastrophic owner negligence.

You're completely wrong.

The minimum wage was introduced to prevent the manipulation of employees by owners of capital.

Your minimum wage is so low that it costs the rest of society extra just to help these employees live somewhat better than in poverty. That's manipulation. Pass the blame onto the corporations, not the ground level workers who are just there to do their job.

Why are you defending these megacorps, when it is costing YOU money?

I think this is a big problem in the west. People want us to comp-ete with China and at the same time want liveable wages for everyone. you cant have both imo. We have to accept that there has to be a working low class who work long hours doing alot of the dirty jobs to get us going

You forgot to include the independent restaurants & bars and privately held multiple restaurants & bars since most of them pay their employees minimum wage or lower.
Only about 4.3% of the workforce is at this wage and 56% of those workers are age 16-24. data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Them going on strike is going to affect very little. You need to have some skilled labor that will be missed to make a strike worth while. Nuking burgers at McDonalds or BK is not exactly rocket science.

I blame government. It wouldn't cost me if the government didn't help these workers, in which case that amount wouldn't be enough to live on and no one would work at that wage and a more "fair" wage would be set by the market

Your point being? That doesn't change the purpose of the minimum wage.

With only 4.3% of the workforce earning minimum wage, its impact on inflation will be minimal, while changing millions of lives for the better. Almost all of their increased earnings will head be injected right back into the economy.

It's an unfortunate reality that small businesses that cannot afford to pay their workers higher than the current minimum wage will face the toughest changes, but the overall benefit for minimum wage workers will heavily outweigh the negatives.
