the tak down attempts and range were god damn awful

how many champs r now jiu jitsu disciples, meaning their foundation is jiu jitsu
all 6/8 divisions are foundationally wrestlers and the other 2 are strikers

Take away BJJ from all those wrestlers and they're all tapped

Pure BJJ guys would be super well served to cross train in wrestling.

They have great ground games, but todays fighters have much evolved TDD.

I often wonder what would happen if we saw a legit Olympic caliber wrestler cross-train in BJJ, and achieve a high level black belt game. That would be seriously scary imo.

the problem is when you have just pure jiujitsu without any real grappling skills. how can you impose your game when u can't take the fight where u need it

It's all down to the first M in MMA.
It's not wrestling and it's not BJJ.

In BJJ strikes aren’t allowed

Edie has made some fun rules though for combat jui jitsu with open palm strikes

This thread is just going to be a bunch of people saying the same thing. BJJ is great, but you need the accompanying skills to get the fight to where you want it to be. Pure BJJ man gets lit up on the feet mercilessly. Pure Wrestlers get pulled into a submission. Pure striker gets taken down and pulverized.

Now as for BJJ as a base, again, it's fine as long as you develop the accompanying necessary skill sets. The problem with a lot of BJJ practitioners is that the current MMA landscape is saturated with wrestling heavy based fighters.

Let's see what Kron can do.

Anyway there are still elite, elite guys with BJJ base like Jacare.

im just saying without wrestling jiu jistu sucks, so catch wrestling probably the peak art form for mma. ortegas takedowns attempts were god awful.

jitz is especially shitty when you fight a kickboxing match for 4 straight rounds.
<5>

The weakness is take downs. You have to get the fight to the ground and that is a hole is so many BJJ's guys games. Strikers can get a long way with TDD and the BJJ guys need to work on single and double legs. I trained years ago at what is now team elevation and I don't think we worked on take downs much at all. Its been awhile. Maia got pretty far but he never had the explosive GSP kind of takedowns and it hurt him in some big fights. Ortega is tough as nails and he has heart. He will be back,.

not what imm saying, there are flaws in bjj, and its probably obsolete.

im analysing the benefits, a lot of fighters learn bjj or learning, but the takedown bit is missing. essentially getting to its obsolete.

A great striker with solid tdd beats a decent striker with a diamond belt in bjj

All it really showed us is that Holloway is a better mma fighter than T-City.

Dude do you even know what gym Max trains out of.

Gracie Technics.

he was getting too comfortable striking, keep all your tools sharp but don't ever forget your bread and butter .

Take a pure wrestler, boxer, kickboxer n bjj guy n put them in a mma fight vs a mma fighter n guess who’s gonna do the best outta those 4?
