Max Holloway wasn't seen as some big time prospect coming to the ufc. What has allowed him to become a great fighter? Was he underestimated? How great is his training?

I hope whatever kept him out at ufc 226 won't permanently be an issue. The ufc needs more Max Holloways. Hoping he ko's Ortega at ufc 231

    Go max!

Robin Black, said in a sort of kind way that he's just simple enough to be successful, not get caught up in stuff and over think things. I'll leave that with Mr Black, I think Max is great and I love his fights, rooting for him vs Ortega.

He should start going by Doc and wearing overly dapper suits.

He was like 20 when he debuted in the UFC with 4 fights, the only reason he wasn't a top prospect back then is because he hadn't had the time

If they'd given him the usual 10 fights or so before bringing him in he absolutely would have been

This. (Plus, he lost his UFC debut).

He is a great fighter, I really hope his best days are ahead of him.

every NFL team asks this question when a 7th (Brady) or 3rd (Wilson) round QB turns out better than all the first & second round selections.

but TS, outside of proven fighters (like Alvarez, Conor & Gaethje), do you pay attention to 'prospects'? other than American wrestlers (Cain, DC, Weidman) and TUF winners, who were what you would call "big time prospects"?

ok. i guess that goes back to the @Workaholic answer; Yan fought for 4+ years as a pro and was champ and defended his belt. i would call that 'proven'. Holloway had 4 pro bouts in one year before coming to the UFC.

Petr Yan is also 25. When Max Holloway was 25 he KO'd Jose Aldo twice

That time he was rattling off like 9 wins in a row to get a title shot? That was his period of "prospect hype"

Dude went 3 rounds with Conor at 21 years old in his 10th fight, he was pretty highly regarded as a guy who would have a very bright future at that time

right. most UFC fighters prove themselves before the UFC; few grow in the UFC.

so he was obviously on someone's "prospect radar". just not TS's. or mine. or most sherdoggers, i'm guessing. but someone saw him and liked what they saw.

War Ortega! Max is a warrior but his days as champ are numbered. You can still get on the train tho, it's not too late!

Take your money and cut your loses now Max. Leave as champ and save your brain. Teach others to fight so you can keep your passion going (and make money).

You have already won the game. You win bruh.

Be smart now.. so you can be smart later.

He needs to get to 155. Competition will be tougher, but the longevity of his career will make up for it. Smash Ortega, then at MOST one more fight like Edgar and move up. He already has an outstanding resume.

Is it brain related or weight cut related? I feel like we still haven't gotten an answer

It’s hard to tell because he’s never missed weight but as he gets older it’ll be harder to make weight. But if you watch his interview with Bisping he was very very off
