On this week's show we have Matt Godden. Matt is an Alliance brown belt and has trained with some of the best in the game. We discuss the challenges of training without a blackbelt head coach in the academy, how to choose an affiliation and tips for training in Brazil. We also discuss the grappling scene in Western New York and Toronto. You'll hear some great stories about Jordon Schultz, Chuck Anzalone and how Paul got smoked in his first tournament. Be sure to check out Facebook.com/DoubleGoldBJJ for about Matt and www.OpenMatRadio.com for more on OMR.

Matt is one of my closest friends and someone I consider a brother. I really hope people enjoy this episode.

I started a thread to discuss one of the topics Matt and I covered in the interview. I'm really interested on how people approach training when they don't have a blackbelt to train with regularly. Sorry if it's confusing to have two threads going.I just know some people don't listen to podcasts, or our specific podcast, but still wanted to hear from everyone.

Just got around to listening to this one. Great one!

We got a great response from this show. Really glad you enjoyed it. I know we got into a few details about the WNY and T.O scene that might not have a wide appeal. That said, a ton of people enjoyed talking about training without a blackbelt on the mat. I'm sure Matt would love to be on your show if you ever wanted to have him on. His understanding of Judo is better than the average jiu jitsu head. I think you might enjoy conversing with him.
