Media Masvidal said recently that he’s “never tapped” ... I look’d into it

Some people say that BK fighting in a backyard against someone way above your weight class is “kinda stupid” ... and some people just humbly pay respect. You should try to be the latter instead of dismissing someone just because you don’t understand them.

I thought the same thing. How can it be ruled a submission if he never submitted?

I remember that inverted triangle. Submission of the year, I think.

Dude has never tapped and his one TKO loss was garbage.

But there is zero doubt that he taps all the time in practice. Everyone does. I remember when Sakuraba got submitted by Mayhem, it was a big deal but he basically said "I tap every day" when he was asked about it.

I think it's supposed to be listen as "technical submission". No tap but the ref was forced to stop it. Like a Technical Knockout, where a fight is stopped because a guy is just taking too many shots.

You’re right. One of them is listed as “technical submission” but not the other, probably a mistake.

Good thing I didn’t call you “stupid” then, right?

    Where are you coming from?

I didn't call you stupid or Masvidal stupid. I said not tapping is stupid. I dont see why that's controversial. Yes, Renzo refused to tap and got a broken arm and is proud of that. i think that's stupid. but i get where he's coming from on some level. i haven't heard Masvidal explain his thinking, so I don't know where he's coming from. But i still posit that not tapping (as a rule) is stupid.

I love it when bitchy internet posters try to downplay the toughness of someone who fights in a cage for a living.

What's there to think about? He doesn't want to tap because not tapping is tough. You're withstanding the pain and showing your pain threshold is higher than most people and even better, you don't even care about receiving permanent damage unlike most of the people. You're tough then.

I never downplayed his toughness. I downplayed his mind.

Idiotic statement. Toughness displayed by a guy like Masvidal relies heavily on the mental side, especially highlighted by the fact of how technically and efficiently he fights (as opposed to being reckless and "brave" in his style).

Using a hypothetical situation to try and display the mental state of a fighter is just fucking dumb.

sure, but that other dude thinks a feela needs to know where he's coming from before judging the actions. i'm not conducting anthroplogical research, so i don't really care what he thinks.

Fair enough... but do you think that maybe the same way that Thai’s strengthen their shins by fu**ing them up kicking trees, Jorge strengthens his mind by refusing to quit? Are you sure the damage he’s incurred is greater than the benefits he’s gained?

    Seriously.

If a fighter is about to lose, people think it’s more admirable to go unconscious and flop around like a fish, than to tap?

i would say if he ever needed to tough out a close fight by not tapping it could be a benefit. not sure miesha practiced it, and she was not in a close fight vs. ronda, but i was impressed with her toughness. not sure what her recovery was like, that shit looked bad.

nah man... theres a huge difference between going out on your shield and turtling or panic tapping

it shows toughness and will or exposes you

"brock doesnt like to get hit" didnt became a thing out of thin air
