I'm talking about definitions, bruh. What you call "socialism" isn't actually what you mean by socialism. That's my problem. These words in Europe have different meaning and have had historically different meanings. Nazis were socialists dude.

Yes nazi ideology fell more into a socialist line, but in practice it was one party, the Nazi party, controlled the means of production, which is exact same end result we see in communism. When American's talk about socialism, they are usually not referring the the idea of a mixed economy, they are referring to the all to common end result of authoritarian rule.

But you say that the United States is a conservative nation, when in reality progressive policies have the support of the majority of the population.

The institutions and the politicians are conservative, because they have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.

That's simplified. Authoritarian rule can look vastly different and has historically. You're speaking of modern times.
Which is what my problem was, Americans have a whole new political vocabulary that doesn't really include the historical definitions of these words.
Communism =/= Authoritarian Rule =/= Socialism.

I’m American and I can 100% confirm this is true. Unfortunately ignorance runs rampant in our country due to a failing education system and propaganda outlets like Fox and fake news from Facebook poisoning people’s minds. Most Trump supporters have no clue what socialism even is. It’s just a name to insult the other side with.

Biden and centrist Democrats are anything but socialist. Even Bernie Sanders isn’t a marxist or socialist by definition. In most European countries, Bernie would just be a typical left of center politician.

They're stupid. To them socialism=communism. It's not that they can't differentiate the two only, they're so stupid that they laugh at you when you try to explain to them it's two different things. Social-liberalism and social-democratism do not exist to them. God forbid they'd get to know that France previous government was socialist or that Spain and Greece have actual socialist governements to this day or that Merkel has a social-democrat gov. They will think they are governed by Lénine or Hugo Chavez or some shit

I thought you wanted to talk about socialism vs communism, instead you want to disagree with the entire world and say the US isn't a conservative nation. Look at US policies compared to everywhere else. We are one of the most conservative countries, the only ones that beat us out are fucking Islamic Republics. There is no arguing this, its observable when we compare the US to the rest of the world. You don't seem to understand how the USA fits into the global picture. What the progressives "want" doesn't matter, what matters is that in practice, we are a conservative nation.

Some of us have actually lived in socialist countries. If you prefer living in a poor country with devalued currency, no way to earn enough money to live above a very mediocre level and inability to have you own social or political views feel free there are countries like Venezuela.
