After seeing the UFC rankings today I realize that Masvidal is overrated.

His only win in the top 10 is Chiesa.
He has three losses in the top 10 (plus is Usman) and is somehow ranked above two of the opponents.

He should be #7 not #4.

Nah. I mean he KO'd, Till and Askren back to back then pounded Nate into hamburger meat. He lost to the champion but he's top 2-3 next to Colby.

If he had come over in 2012 possibly. Given he had retired a year and a half before joining the UFC in large part due to a seriously fucked up hip (which he recently had surgery on), I was hopeful but frankly didn't expect too much.

I just checked the Sherdog rankings. I think he's ranked fairly; I think Edwards should be higher than Mas, but I can see the argument either way.

As for how he's rated, I've never read any comments saying that he's the best Welterweight on the planet. I don't think any of his biggest fans actually think that. Most just like him because he's charismatic, extremely tough, and an excellent technician in the cage. Unfortunately, Masvidal's ceiling will always be limited by an overall size/strength disparity between him and the monsters at 170lbs, but it's incredible how well he's done just through toughness and skill.

Come to think of it, Masvidal would've probably thrived in a 165lbs division.

His 3 fight streak wasn’t very impressive tbh. It’s a joke he ever fought for the title of “baddest”

I mean, he is good, but he has well known flaws. Seems he has fixed the lack of aggression that cost him a lot of those split decision losses but he still doesn't have the wrestling to hang with the tip-top fighters in LW/WW that fight with a solid gameplan.

He KO’d Till who was 17-1 prior to fighting Mas and his only loss was Woodley.
He KO’d the hottest up and comer for the belt in Askren (like it or not that was the narrative at the time).
He beat the shit out of Nate in every area of his fight vs him.

also his prior losses the year prior were ultra close split decisions that could have legitimately gone either way.

Mas is an interesting case, in that he used to be criminally underrated, and with the Diaz fight, jumped to overrated. He's an A level gate keeper. He loses to only the best, but loses nonetheless.
