Absolutely horrendous what happened in Texas.

I just read there has so far been 27 school shootings and about 200 mass shootings in the US this year so far.

Thats insane.

Its clear that banning guns is NOT the solution as there are waaaaay too many guns already floating around along with black market stock. Also of course the second amendment.

So does government ramp of funds for security measures in places like schools, malls, places of worship and any public gathering spots?

Do we get used to seeing security force walking around with semi-automatics in places like Elementary schools?

What more can be done about this situation?

It's not a gun issue it's a mental health issue. And yes, it must be addressed but it's a lot easier to just blame the guns as if there are no other methods of mass murder.

Nobody who has committed a mass shooting doesn't have severe mental issues.

The notion of having armed guards around schools does sound unrealistic until you realize that banks have armed guards to protect their money.

Nothing says you have a problem in your country like the need to fortify schools.

I oppose gun control in almost any form but I'm not so insane that I can pretend that a problem doesn't exist. Gang shootings, crime related killings -- they are awful but they are also predictable and a consequence of the lifestyle choices made by criminals. The killing of random people just to kill random people is a problem separate and apart from that.

And while fortifying schools might be the only solution that people can all get behind, that would be a pretty large admission of a problem we can't control

If we didnt insist upon making it incredibly easy for people with mental health issues to get firearms, then they wouldnt be able to do mass shooting like this. When you dont want to put restrictions on firearm sales and you dont want to spend money on mental health, you get our current situation.

At no point in any of the discussion do we look to secure and fortify the most important buildings we have. Our schools in this country.

Actually there have been TONS of studies done in the last 10-20 years in the field of school security through Architecture. I’ve attended those very meetings for our district. It includes input from police officers, architects, teachers, etc to design the safest schools possible. They also study footage from school shootings to look at shooter entry / timing / movement patterns as grisly as that sounds. There’s only so much you can do because you’re trying to balance security with a good learning environment which is VERY hard to do.

Sometimes, it’s as simple as lax entry procedures that allow shooters to get in.

Nothing will happen

Mass shootings are just the norm now in America

The hard decisions that could fix these problems are just too hard for America to make

It would take a mass shooting of politicians or something like that for anything to change

if you define a mass shooting as any sort of encounter where multiple people are shot, yeah there’s probably like 1000 per year. that’s kinda fake news though.

How do you even begin to tackle mental health issues when the majority of people who have the issues dont know it exists, wont admit to having it or wont get help for it?

Theres been cases where people are simply enraged cause of a single solitary issue and go on a rampage, perhaps fueled by drugs or alcohol or just plain vengeful anger. Do we pawn that off as an on going mental health issue or a single solitary bout of rage sparked by something recent. That happens.

It can be a combination of things at times. The point being, this issue of people toting guns and offing mass amounts of people for whatever reason is only getting worse. Extensive measures unfortunately need to be taken or the deaths will just keep on piling up.

A lot of Americans shouldn’t have guns. As gun owners, we know this. So, we turn to mental health…we have shitty mental healthcare in this country, and a huge number of Americans who say ‘it’s mental health’ want to put no money into the system. Okay, social media — can’t do anything about that, really. The parents? Can’t judge.

The bodies keep piling up, year after year, with no sign of stopping. If we aren’t going to address a lot of the underlying problems, then we should accept that it is going to continue happening because of guns.

The solution is for the people of this nation to turn back to God. It's the only solution for us as we watch it all falling apart very quickly

That didnt exactly bring peace at any point during our fabled history, in fact the exact opposite would happen. Im quite the spiritual person these days but we certainly dont live in a heavenly place where simply praying or meditating will make the evil around us in the physical realm vanish.

It would take massive revival and the Holy Spirit to convict hearts to repent of their sins. That is something we should pray for.

But we aren't going back to the society we had 10-20 years ago without God intervening and many lives saved and changed by Christ. But honestly do we want to go back to that when we were rejecting Christ in the public sphere even then in the good times? We would be right back where we are today with this mess

That actually makes me feel queasy.

Imagine saying you have to 'fortify' schools.

Good God, that is horrific.

Queasy is bullet proof glass and technology to limit access to a building so mass murderers can’t commit mass murder? That’s the part of the story that makes
you “queasy” ?
