Some hard sparring. Masato has some of the best hands I've ever seen from a non-boxer. He always outboxes his opponents so its nice to see him meet his match in boxing.

He gets rocked at 1:30 reminds me of Masato/Kyshenko 2, this was for preperation for the Japan relief exhibition.

he looked like he was trying to kill his sparring partner haha

Good find - some nice combo's by both guys.
Who's the other guy, a boxer or kickboxer?
Oh and someone tell these damn kickboxers to wear shoes when they box haha.

OT but I love to see some Zambidis boxing sparring if you can find it.

other guy might be a kickboxer? weird that they're sparring without shoes on.

This was a really enjoyable watch. Thanks for posting!

Is it just me or do the Japanese have apretty distinctive boxing style?

They all look and fight like Gomi Takinori. Just kidding.

But the few Japanese boxers i have watched do have a very scrappy, come forward do or die style. That or its just us.

Same thing with Koreans. I don't claim to be a boxing expert, but I haven't seen one Asian boxer who isn't a tough agressive puncher. I have yet to see an asian who fights with methodical defense and counterpunching.

^^ LOL Daisuke Naito is perfect example. Very stiff, rigid, and hits hard

I think Masato has a unique blend of power and precision for a japanese fighters. Masato doesn't move or circle a lot, he stands quite close because it helps him to finish his combinations with brutal uppercuts or leg kicks. For this approach you have to be really technical to slip punches on close, and a good chin to withstand the storm. Doesn't sound like the typical Japanese fighter.

It's fortunate for Masato that kickboxers and MT fighters tend to shell up when they defend, allowing Masato to blast away without much fear of being countered. It also allow him to throw those combos in the first place (I guarantee you in a boxing match against someone good you'd see his punches parried and he'd never be able to get off those long combos).

It does help a lot that Masato is iron chinned, but he also has a boxing style that works well against kickboxers.

And I say this in the best way possible - when I do MT I throw long strings of combos like Masato, in boxing I fight in a more defensive style, wary of getting countered

Why? They fight without them, why train with them? It would make less sense if they did.

Nice vid BTW

It makes sense if you come from a boxing background - it's like wrestling, you get a TON of footwork advantage from using shoes.

Like you mentioned though, kickboxing is barefoot so I guess there's no point in sparring.

There's actually a few pivoting techs in boxing that I can only get to work consistently with shoes on. Barefoot you just don't have enough traction.

You don't get coountered with an elbow throwing long punch combos?

I agree with ambertech without shoes on certain aspects of boxing footwork are definitely off the table; not all or most but def some of them

Nonito Donaire is an exception in that regard.

Masato has a beautiful one-two. His right hand somehow manages to find the other dude's chin everytime.
