News Marvin Vettori and Giga Chikadze believe that Vettori won the fight

Chikadze doesn't understand the rules. Takedowns and ground control don't win fights. You have to do something with that control. He had the sub attempt, but it happened to have happened in a round in which Izzy's striking advantage was at its largest. Clear 50-45 for Izzy.

Stats aren't the be all and end all but they are a base for the argument.

Vettori's lack of striking in the clinch or ground is what lost him the fight. Even when he did get it to the ground, besides the choke he did nothing.

When Izzy escaped the choke in the 3rd he had 2:30 to go to work on the feet and ended that round strong. The fight mirrored the first with a close first round, Izzy taking the second, Vettori having success in the third, but this time Izzy escaped much quicker and had time to work and take the round back. You could have an argument for the 1st or 3rd to Vettori, but it would be split every time. He can have a pity round but who cares, he lost the fight and didn't do anything that makes me think it would go differently in a rematch. He was a punching bag, grabbed the legs and then just held on besides a 30 second sequence with the choke.

If he showed some willingness to throw to the body instead of head hunt or to use G&P instead of hold he would have taken a round or two. The strikes to Izzy's legs at the end of the 5th was when I think he realised he had nothing for him. If he wanted to do more than survive and pray he would have been throwing real damaging strikes at the end of the fight.
