DC has some amazing characters and the combo of batman and joker and the canon of Superman are unmatched imo, however with that being said i much prefer the Marvel stories and characters to the rest of the DC catalog.

Overall Marvel but Batman and Superman are GOAT.

Marvel all day. DC has some of the worst stories of all-time.

Although, I concede, they have some of the best of all-time as well.

Marvel, imo.

Infinity Gauntlet/Thanos Quest beat anything DC can put forward, imo.

Marvel. Age of Apocalypse was my thing when I was kid. And all the awesome magic storylines with Dr. Strange and Ghost Rider. DC has horrible magic characters IMO

For me it's Marvel. The only DC characters I ever gave a crap about were Batman and Lobo, not sure if he's even still around though. A 90's thing. But yea Batman is awesome but the rest of DC is lame. Wear a yellow suit and you could pretty much walk Green Can-tern down and beat the shit out of him. And the Flash, oh you can run fast? So what?

In all honesty, DC characters and storylines just always seemed to be missing that extra little x-factor, I don't know if it's humour or what. Just something that made the Marvel characters seem a little more human, and likeable to me. You can even see it in the movies. Look at the trailer for Suicide Squad, they're trying to be like GOTG but to me it's falling flat.

To be fair, overall I think Marvel is just a better world, but Watchmen, Sandman, Alan Moore's run on Swamp Thing (pretty everything Moore wrote for DC), Batman Year One, The Killing Joke and The Dark Knight Returns, and Grant Morrison's run on Animal Man all rank amongst the greatest comic tales ever told.

To be truthful I have never even really read much marvel comics besides x-men

What are some of the top tier ones I should check out

ppl crap on DC cuz marvel made it big with the blockbuster movies and its continuity, but to me those movies seem to be aimed mainly @ kids with bright colors and loud explosions

i prefer DC comics and animated shows/OVAs b/c of the darker atmosphere and better fleshed out characters (flashpt paradox, crisis on 2 earths, red hood, doom)

Walt Simonson's run on Thor, Peter David's run on The Hulk (it went on for over a decade though), Frank Miller's run on Daredevil, volume one of New Avengers, Ultimates 1 & 2, New Mutants 87-100, first 30 issues or so of volume one of X-Factor, Marvels, Earth/Universe/Paradise X, Squadron Supreme maxiseries.

Marvel has always been the leaders in this department.
They just innovate and market themselves much better than DC ever has.

They got the digital thing right first and they did it better. Plus they did their movies much much better.

Marvel once again leads the way in their industry.

There's only a few superheroes I find interesting. Batman, Superman, The Punisher, Wolverine. Maybe Spiderman.

I guess that's fairly even but Marvel has way more filler.

Easiest for me is to pick my favorite characters from each universe.

Marvel:
-Punisher
-Deadpool
-Loki
-Winter Soldier
-Quill
-Wolverine

DC:
-Deadshot
-Deathstroke
-Boomerang

I cannot STAND the mainstay DC heroes like Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, and others. They're all, so, fucking, BORING. Superman is too damn perfect as is Batman. When the argument for why Batman would win is "he has prep time" makes me fucking lose it. Watch what truly nutsos like Boomerang and Deadpool can do with NO prep time and look at the cold ruthless efficiency of a character like Punisher when he gets to prep.

The Invisibles from Vertigo trumps all except Batman.
batman is fucking batman. goat forever probably.

I could never get into DC books. Something just seemed off about them.

Everyone is too perfect imo.

-Batman, lost his parents but never fucking loses and with how he's this "uncorruptable" being pisses me the fuck off

-Superman... well, he's Superman

-Latern... practically perfect

None of their mainstay people that seem to have any sort of real character flaw or weakness.

Meanwhile, you look at Marvel and Stark is a fucking alchy, Hulk has his anger issues, Capt America is constantly having that goofy internal battle of being a good government GI and doing what's right, Thor has his short fuse, Castle and Deadpool are essentially representative of what the other heroes would be if they didn't give a shit.

DC all the way!

Kingdom Come, Justice, Crisis on Multiple Earths, Crisis of Infinite Earths, Flashpoint, Identity Crisis, Infinite Crisis are epic stories!

Batman stories: Year One, TDKR, Knightfall, A Death in the Family, The Killing Joke, Battle for the Cowl, Earth One, Noel not to mention Robin Year One and the Joker Graphic Novel

Superman: For the Man who has Everything, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow, All-Star, Secret Identity, Last Son of Krypton, Birthright, Earth One

Teen Titans: The Judas Contract and the Terror of Trigon, really the Perez/Wolfman run

Iconic cartoon runs such as Superfriends, JL, JLU, BATS, Young Justice, the cartoon movie catalog is incredible, live action shows such as Batman 66, Shazam, Wonder Woman, now Arrow and the Flash

the villians: Darkseid, Sinestro, Lex Luthor, The Joker, Deathstroke, Solomon Grundy, Despero, Zoom, etc.

so much more................I can go on and on
