Does he just RNC toddlers all day on the mats?

When did he last attempt a submission?

BJJ practitioners who actually, you know, use the thing they are good at, are the best, and often the most dangerous. See Bryce Mitchell.

They’re handed out like happy meals these days. You don’t have to be a sub artist to have great BJJ however.
Well he clearly prefers position over submission. I think it would just make him 10x more watchable if he at-least mixed his elite wrestling with seemingly good BJJ.

If he just passed more I think he’d be more exciting. Unfortunately he’s more than happy to play a very patient game. It’s hard to submit guys at the elite level. I think the last sub in a title fight was GSP vs Bisping and before that it was Pettis vs Bendo.

Conor would be a black belt if he knew how to tie a belt.

Here's my theory on black belts like Usman.

I think that a lot of BJJ coaches for UFC fighters are legit for sure, but someone as strong and as good of a wrestler as Usman probably gets to a point where they start tapping the coach regularly. The coach then can't take it and just ends up giving the fighter a black belt to justify it, but in reality Usman or the fighter just is far more athletic and already an extremely good grappler/wrestler.

But when you put their newly earned black belt against other UFC talent, it doesn't translate as well

starting to see that trend a lot with fighters not using their strengths.
jones , yoel, don't wrestle anymore
Ferguson barely grapples

aaaaaand woodley doesn't strike ;)

It would be nice to see him utilize it more for passing from top position.

I think that is one thing GSP excelled at where Usman hasn't really used it. Seems content to just stay in whatever position he lands in from the takedown. Looks a little uncomfortable in guard.

He did. I forgot about that one. And DC submitted a few guys too. I evidently pulled that stat out of my ass. I think I got it conflated with the stat there hasn’t been a submission from the bottom in a title fight since Pettis vs Bendo.
Well, to be fair DC submitted guys that you can argue are not elite. Black Beast for example is anything but elite level.

Fake news, they gave him that belt
