Mark Munoz vs. Lyoto Machida
One Gracie Brother in Each Corner!

Mark Munoz expected to face Michael Bisping in the Main Event of UFC Fight Night 30 in Manchester, England, and Lyoto Machida was expecting to fight Tim Kennedy at UFC Fight For the Troops 3 on November 6.

However, a serious eye injury forced Bisping from the fight and Munoz is now scheduled to fight Lyoto Machida on October 26th! For those who don't know, both Munoz and Machida train at the Gracie Academy.

After much deliberation, Ryron and Rener decided that they would each corner one fighter on October 26. Ryron will be in Mark's corner and Rener in Lyoto's corner. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that brothers have had to coach opposite one another in a UFC fight.

Even though we are disheartened by the fact that our jiu-jitsu brothers will be facing off against one another, having one Gracie Brother in each corner should make for a VERY interesting chess match!

I swear the next post is going to be about how Ryron and Rener rescued Metamoris by sweetalking another investor into ponying up money in order to save the world from not experiencing Bravo/Royler 2.

This is crazy but awesome. It boggles my mind that Munoz & Machida can be training partners before fighting each other with so much at stake. That's some serious mental maturity and strength of character.

And then the two brothers in opposing corners. How is that not super awkward to them? I feel weird just competing at regional BJJ tournies against guys I've previously met at open mats.

Also, Lyoto is shredded at 185. HOT STUFF

Very interesting stuff, but this is never going to turn into a BJJ match because Lyoto is never actually taking it to the ground unless it is to finish off a half-conscience Munoz.

"cornerman" in the sense of the chess game of what to do when the fight hits the ground.
