Okay this was my second big seminar. First one was Robson...
The Sperry seminar was AWESOME. I think I will be using everything he showed. It was sweet to get a good look into the heavy weight game..

Anyways, He promoted one of his students who just got 3rd in absolutes at the pan ams, Jay Nance. This is his second brown belt.

He also gave 3 blue belts. two of hsi students Kyle, and Lee, and finally..ME.

I did not see it coming, and it kind of makes me realize how far I have to go, and how much I have to learn..Oh yeah, and I guess I'll be getting my ass kicked at the Nagas in july. :icon_chee

And since people will probably ask:

sperry is the shit. ive been to two of his seminars and hes great. hes obviously very technical but more importantly hes very articulate. hes all about wearing on your opponent physically and mentally, and hes the only jiujitsu guy ive met with the old time martial arts focus of developing the mind and spirit.

The seminar was at my instructor Eduardo Barros' gym.

It took me a year and 8 months to get the blue.

Eduardo and Mario trained together under Carlson.

sorry if i left any questions unanswered, I'll come back and answer those later.

dudu is a black belt.. why did sperry promote you? Why would you want sperry to give you a belt when dudu is your everyday instructor?

I'm sorry, I must not have been very clear.

Dudu promoted us, but he decided to hold the promotions during the seminar because sperry being there isn't an every day thing.

BTW I got some pics of sperry wearing a white belt because he didn't want to borrow a black belt and left all his stuff in vegas. anyone want to see them?

And I agree with what others said. He focuses a lot on mind and spirit..and his side control/knee on stomach is brutal...1 minute under that side mount and you're gonna be gassed the hell out.

sperry is a great guy, I have trained with him a bunch out here in las vegas. Wonderful attitude and he has been wearing a white belt for sometime out here as well. When I asked him why he told me that after thirty years of training he felt like he was starting over, what a great comment.
