Marine Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller, the officer who went viral for blasting the military's leadership amid the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, has been sent to the brig, according to a report.

"All our son did is ask the questions that everybody was asking themselves, but they were too scared to speak out loud," Scheller's father, Stu Scheller Sr., told Task & Purpose. "He was asking for accountability. In fact, I think he even asked for an apology that we made mistakes, but they couldn’t do that, which is mind-blowing."

Scheller first rose to internet stardom by posting a video to Facebook blasting military leaders for the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, questioning their command decisions on the events leading up to and during the final evacuation effort.

TUNE IN: SCHELLER'S PARENTS SPEAK OUT EXCLUSIVELY ON ‘THE INGRAHAM ANGLE,’ 10 PM ET TUESDAY ON FOX NEWS

Scheller would go on to release several more videos, generating praise and controversy while drawing the ire of military leadership. Eventually, he was told by superiors to stop posting to social media altogether, an order he immediately ignored by posting about the gag order.

The officer also seemingly realized that last post could result in his trip to the brig.

"What happens when all you do is speak truth and no one wants to hear it. But they can probably stop listening because… I’m crazy… right?" Scheller wrote at the end of the post. "Col Emmel please have the MPs waiting for me at 0800 on Monday. I’m ready for jail."

MARINE WHO CRITICIZED MILITARY LEADERS OVER AFGHAN EXIT SAID HE WAS ORDERED TO UNDERGO MENTAL HEALTH SCREENING

Scheller is "currently in pre-trial confinement," a spokesperson for Training and Education Command said of the officer's status.

"The time, date, and location of the proceedings have not been determined. Lt. Col. Scheller will be afforded all due process," the statement continued.

But the elder Scheller defended his son, arguing that he was only asking for "accountability" from the military's top brass.

"He’s asking for the same accountability that is expected of him and his men," he said.

"I’ve had Vietnam veterans contacting me applauding him for his courage because they too want to know: Was it all worth it?" he continued. "And by demanding accountability and honesty from his senior leaders, that’s all he was asking. And the way the Marine Corps has dealt with it: They have now put him in jail."

Its seems it may be unclear if he is being imprisioned because of his criticism of military brass, or if perhaps he maybe used a wrong pronoun somewhere. Someone should have warned him that dissent would not be tolerated.

From that article, it seems clear to me that he wasn't sent to the brig for his criticism - or pronouns - but because he ignored a direct order not to post.

The military has never encouraged dissent. Seems like he chose the wrong career.

Yeah I'm not sure why anyone would expect a Marine Lt. Col. to be tolerated publicly lambasting his superiors in any capacity.

I sympathise, but a military career's never really been one for guys who want to question their superiors.

That said, the American military's upper echelon hasn't been particularly accountable since World War 2, the consistent degradation of your effectiveness speaks to that.
Your soldiers are probably better than they've ever been (though, for how much longer remains to be seen) - but the generals have just been getting worse and worse.
Someone does need to call them to account, even if they don't like a lowly Lt do be the one doing it.

"We've abondoned allies and US Citizens. Given a region, arms, vehicles, and operating bases to the Taliban. We've viciously killed children in a drone strike. But, the MSM has been largely silent on this failure and we've enjoyed little accountability. Will someone please shut the Lieutenant Colonel up before the press really wakes up and does their job!"

Having served I can say that you must be careful of what you post on social media and never speak as a representative of the Armed Forces without the consent of your superiors unless you are willing and able to deal with consequences which we see in this instance.

Are you telling me that a good man was arrested for speaking the truth in the land of freedom?

Not to post criticism

And yet plenty criticized the former Commander in Chief.

You would literally defend anything your side does. They could hang this man and you would defend it.

Most in this thread need to read what he actually posted. For starters, he knew he was going to end up in prison and at one point refers to his superior officer by rank and name and says I’m ready for the brig now sir. He understood his actions had consequences. It was a calculated decision he made and he is at the end of his career. My guess is forced retirement and when you retire your pay status reflects the highest rank held. That being said, military leadership have been making themselves look inept and spineless for a while now. I have no idea if he thought he was going to spark some kind of dialogue or this is all a political stunt but it’ll likely work out in his favor once he retires from the Marines.

Once you sign up to be a member of any military branch there goes that freedom of speech, no you cannot play critic, you do what you are told and keep your mouth shut. Yep you are just one of the sheep in the herd.

If you are not wanting that kind of treatment ya don't join up, just that simple.

Yep, this guy should get what he is getting.
