Marine Corps taking a hit for ending deal with UFC

Isn't the culinary union what's been stopping events in New York? or whereever the fark it was
Yep, along with the boxing (and possibly pro wrastling) establishments that want to do business there.

You would think the owners of the Madison Square Garden and Barclay's Center would want a chunk of that UFC revenue to influence the politicians to let the UFC and MMA as a whole back in.

A branch of the military that is known for producing ruthless killers doesn't want to be associated with the image the UFC presents? lol oh man.... maybe marines can all get subscriptions to martha stewart living instead

Ruthless killers? Go whine in the corner, bitch

So much drama.

That video compilation ("Unfit For the Corps) was funny.

the marines arent diverse, but they shouldnt be... they do a lot of the military's dirty work

You have not even the slightest clue as to what you're talking about. The Marine Corps is the most diverse organization I've ever been a part of

I'm a pro-union guy, so it pains when unions act like douches. But even at their worst they can't touch the billionaire plutocrats that reside on the other end of the spectrum.

I left for more money, but my job was filled before I officially left. There were 9 people applying for it when I got the job, and my resume was way too strong to take a minimum wage job at the time. I just wanted to work in a sports book because I got to watch sports all day and talk gambling. What I'm trying to say is that they have no need to pay more for that position, even if I personally needed more money in the long run. I had coworkers that had been there for years and were very happy. There were also general tips split between us and occasional individual tips handed to you by a regular customer who just won big. I had one guy hand me 200 bucks in an envelope after he won 10,000 and that was the equivalent of three days pay.

intersting, so then if there were so many people wanting these jobs, how come other casinos dont just negotiate hard w the unions, let them leave, and then replace them with all this demand

id say both sides are equally lousy - they dont give a sht about the other side really and try to squeeze as much out of it as possible

def a place where everyone looks bad - but thast business - no judgments in business, just whatever you can get away with, i guess

simply, the owners of the UFC also own the largest non union casino in vegas, so the culinary union puts pressure on people involved/support the UFC.

they hope by putting pressure on the UFC, the fertitas (owner of UFC) will finally give up and allow unions into the casino.

basically extortion.

It's a poor tactic. It's akin to going after a person's child to get to the person. I am more pro-union than not in the sense that there needs to be a balance to corporate demands; but this here is some real BS.

Didnt know you have to be so clean cut to support a group of people who literally KILL PEOPLE

Absolutely amazing.

"The contract was not renewed because the Corps is shifting its recruiting efforts toward developing a more diverse force, said Maj. John Caldwell, spokesperson for the Marine Corps Recruiting Command."

Uh, MMA fans are some of the most diverse in the US of A. And dare I say, it hits their target demo perfectly.

Foolish, foolish, move. Hopefully who was ever in charge of this decision does not lead our boys into war or make any other tactical decisions.

War Marines.

The Marines were made to GET SUM! People who join either want to GET SUM! or want to tell people that they GET SUM! Reguardless the purpose of the Marine Corps is to wage war and make marines. If they want to expand and do other shit theres no point might as well be obsorbed by the navy and let the army GET SUM!

How times post-deployment were you asked if you killed anyone? As soon as you say I was a Marine they ask about killing people. The general public thinks all we do is kill people without remorse no matter what the MOS.

I love these threads because half of the people posting claim to be veterans.

The unions should go take a run and jump, as should other special interest groups

Yeah I didn't get that part of the article either. Not sure what level of diversion they're looking for.

"Oh sweet dude, you were a Marine? Were you in Iraq? Oh, I bet you killed all sorts of people!. That'd be awesome!!"

People are idiots

It's a meaningless answer. As somebody said earlier in the thread, there is probably legal reasons that they don't want to get involved in as to why they won't say the real reason. In today's society all you have to do is say somthing meaningless about "we're looking to increase diversity" or some other nonsense and people will go "Oh. Yeah, diversity and such, I totally agree."

Maybe a move away from the "perception" that they use the UFC to recruit only these type of people:

People are focused on the unions, but they are probably just putting pressure on certain members of Congress and the Armed Services Committee's to spend advertising and recruiting money in other places.

It's the UFC's fault. They should have put a cap on guys like Rampage running around making a fool of himself. Dana liked that his risque behavior build up his charisma and attract the dumb crowd and it definitely alienates most people. Should have seen it coming. Short sighted.
