Marine Corps taking a hit for ending deal with UFC

The marines wilted to the influence of the damn culinary union? This vountry is heading down the shitter faster than I thought. I'm ashamed.

I don't think any military branch needs many TV ads or to be sponsoring the UFC. They do better with recruiters going to high schools. As a taxpayer, I'd rather see the military spend less on TV ads.

They keep them out by treating workers better than any other casino. I worked in the sports book at Santa Fe station for a stretch and was shocked at how well I was treated. Free commissary during lunch breaks, employee training programs, and just an overall working atmosphere that was more pleasant than comparable jobs. I was getting minimum wage, so I eventually moved on, but I still think of it as one of the best jobs I ever had.

that makes sense, but then i guess ultimately the problem is still there - as you described, you left for more money

so you would think ujnions would coordinate and tell people to get the casino to stop wasting money on employee training and to get more money in the pockets of the employees

Anyone who is pro-union is mentally weak and lazy. Flame away!

Sweet, I don't have to watch their bullshit propaganda anymore.

"Hey, war is just like a video game, you'll love it!"

Apparently the employees are so well treated that they generally aren't interested in fucking it up.

I doubt that's the propaganda. Sure, their video games are a recruiting tool, but I don't that playing a video game where you are shot at, blown up, set on fire, bludgeoned, etc. is a good catalyst to spark the desire for being a marine. The interest has to serve has to already be there. Their merely swaying folks with "the fire" to their branch.

Basically Union bitching, typical.

But as a libertarian, i'm not into military macho bullshit anyway.

How about just military stuff? Why does it have to be macho or bullshit? I am a libertarian, not to be confused with a liberal, they have little to do with each other these days, and yet I support our military. I was in the USMC in 1996.

There's always been a tilt in the Marine Corps between realistic, pragmatic intellects and then the people who insist on everything old-fashioned and who pretend servicemembers are saints.

My time in the marine corps pretty much consisted of fighting, titty bars, and trading porn like currency. This tuck your shirt in, high and tight, maintain chivalry is all a silly distraction meant to bend your commitments to everything else so that your enlistment affects every facet of your life.

Cutting ties with the UFC like they're some sort of questionable entity is another case of American hypocrisy that makes this American shake his head.

Oh, well. I'm sure the UFC can find another sponsor; nothing to worry about! :icon_lol:

Sir I believe you are wrong, because in a video game, though you may die, there is no consequence for dying, you respawn and kill again, death is not a deterrent. You are rewarded for killing, and death is glorified by your high score.
I know what you're saying though, a pacifist probably isn't going to up and join the Forces because he played Call of Duty a couple times, there has to be a previous desire (or sociopathic tendency, desperation due to living conditions or something else like a patriotic desire) that may be further fueled by the propaganda, but it's still propaganda.
If you've seen the ads where they show a futuristic soldier in a nighttime special op, which is clearly portrayed in a video game style, and then they seamlessly blend into a present day marine on an op, you should know what I mean. This is clearly done to force an association between the thrill of killing, excitement of playing with guns and toys, etc, to being a Marine.

You forgot systemic alcoholism and debauchery

Good, sick of their commercials and sick of hearing about our brave soldiers every ten minutes.

They have stated that if their casinos unionize all the secondary benefits will go away and their base pay will remain the same. Honestly to me the employee training is a great thing. It helps develop skills for their employees and can help them advance in the company itself or improve their resumes and help them get better jobs in the future.

I've always had a great handle on my alcohol. It's one of my few shining qualities...

But the number of alcoholics in the marine corps, and probably in the other branches, is staggering. My roommate at MOS school in Camp Johnson used to do shots of discount liquor before PT in the morning. Craziest thing I've ever seen...

I'm worried about this. I wonder if they will still show the UFC on the Armed forces channel. That was one of the biggest reasons why I liked the UFC as far as what they do for the military. Considering all of the ppv's were free to watch on the network for soldiers deployed.

If, (and I am just surmising), it were the other way round, and the UFC wanted to end the relationship because they were moving into other markets and wanted to expand their fan base then the UFC might want to allow the marines to take the initiative and leave on their own terms. It doesn't really for the UFC any harm to allow the Marines to present it this way but it wouldn't look great to the US fan base if the UFC were the ones ending the relationship with the marines. I am not saying this is the case, just that if it were, they might well present it this way anyway.
