When Marcus Brimage returns from an injury that will keep him down likely into 2014, he will do so in a new weight class.

Brimage (6-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) is rehabbing an Achilles tendon injury, but when he comes back, he is planning to drop from featherweight to bantamweight.

Brimage's manager, Lex McMahon, on Wednesday confirmed the plan to MMAjunkie.com after Brimage on Tuesday told Amy Barton of MMA DieHards' Punch Drunk Radio of his decision to move down to 135 pounds.

"Marcus has started his rehab and is working with a team of doctors, therapists, coaches and nutritionists to make certain that he returns to the octagon as soon as possible and in the best shape possible," McMahon told MMAjunkie.com. "Current estimates are for a nine-month recovery. Upon his return, Marcus will fight as a bantamweight."

Hope he can pick up a win in his return. He's definitely a smaller guy but carries alot of muscle. How do you guys think he'll do at 135? To be honest, I picked him to grab the win over McGregor. Boy was I wrong.

I am a Marcus fan, I hope he does well in the future.

I like it , as mentioned he wasn't very big and FW has a lot of guys that have moved down from 155 so I think its a smart choice to be more competitive in the UFC

I hope it works out for him, but I do remember him gassing in a couple fights, not sure a drop to 135 would help his cardio.

Not really. They already have Cisco, Wineland, Yuri, and Mayday, and I wouldn't classify Brimage as a hard hitter.

Brimage has the power, I think. He just needs to land the right shot and take a little more risks with his punches.

Ever since I first saw him, i thought he was too small for FW

But he did have sweet run at FW, 3 win streak, he earned my respect

BW will be better for him, maybe he could even go to FLW?

Well. He is only 5'4. But he carries alot of muscle mass and as someone stated earlier, already doesn't have the most amazing cardio. 135 should benefit him, but 125? I don't think so.

Seems unnecessary to me. He was 3-0 in the UFC and having beaten some solid guys before running into McGregor, who quite frankly he wouldn't beat, at least at this point in his career regardless of the weightclass.
