When I saw the partial title, "Marcello Garcia rolls with Rickson Gracie..." I almost wet myself. Then when I clicked through I was disappointed, as the full title was "Marcello Garcia rolls with Rickson Gracie blackbelt." Still - that's pretty amazing. Rickson doesn't hand out bb's like candy. But when Marcello sweeps him at 1:20-ish the guy goes into a defensive shell, full on survival mode. Still a great illustration of Marcello as a total beast. Maybe the best jj guy out there today?
Always awesome watching Marcelo roll. He was defintely a few levels above that guy for sure, and that guy looked pretty solid.
I saw this same video this weekend and had the exact same reaction. That black belt looked like a white belt when he faced marcelo, that kinda blows my mind
And marcelo climbs up him into high mount and winds up with the arm. Just brilliant and gorgeous to watch. I wonder if he was after that arm all along....
Its crazy - he tools black belts the way most black belts tool whites. He's just operating at a level most of us can't even understand. A little scary, actually. Like a smaller Rickson in his prime. But nicer.
Saw this a while ago, Marcelo just tools this guy , i am sure he earned that BB , but Marcelo is like stratosphere with his BJJ , he can't be reached
I believe that's Brandon Hetzler--won Pan-Ams at Brown, Seniors division. Never rolled with him, but I used to train karate with him 15+ years ago--he's an ex-marine, total beast, but one of the most humble, nicest guys you'll ever meet. Very dedicated marital artist.
It's a Rickson black belt that nobody has heard of rolling with one of the best grapplers in history. Shouldn't come as a shock that being one a Rickson Gracie black belt doesn't automatically put someone on par with the art's elite competitors.
Seriously. The thought of MG and Rickson rolling on video is -- stimulating. I'd give a lot to see that match. A no-time limit submission only match. Sigh. A guy can dream.
I would pay good money to see Rickson and any well-known BB, even just sparring. Roger, Bucecha, Marcelo, anyone. The stories we hear about Hickson - legend or myth...? I choose to believe legend.
The people I know who trained with him back in the day swear it's legend. But, I tend to believe all good legends come with accompanying myth augmentations. ^_^
