managers express concerns over bellator's sticky contracts

This will end if MMA becomes a true sport, and guys aren't just happy to be there. These same guys who are just thrilled to be on a big stage, will be bitching about how little money they made 10 years from now.

lol, don't know whats worse, the contracts or the people somehow claiming these contracts are standard. ufc has shit contracts, bellator does as well. I guess bellator didn't want to settle with just copying the ufc contracts, they needed to take it a step further.

heres hoping bellator can get back to what they were before spike. it seems like viacom has been intent on running the company the way they want to.

edit-also im pretty sure the ufc owning the rights to a guy for life is illegal somehow, unless the fighters get fair compensation for their likeness i don't know how they get away with that.

Why do random people on the internet care about contracts that fighters willing sign?

Complaining about the pay off MMA is a different thing because some people think fighters are worth more then they are given. But complaining about legal shit is just stupid, especially when it only applies to people who have signed the legal binding contract.

Also, fighters and their managers can negotiated and add their own shit to the contracts.

If GSP signed with Bellator tomorrow, he would make his own contract and Bellator would have to sign it.

You completely contradict yourself in this post.
Fighters sign for term and dollar amount.
If you want to reasonably discuss one, its also reasonable to discuss the other as they're both directly related.

And if GSP signed 10 years ago he would have had zero power and been trapped with no recourse. See the problem?

We complain because we want to see the best fights. I don't want to see a top 5 fighter fight the #30 guys in Bellator for 10 years while we argue if he's one of the best without any way to find out.

No and no.

Fighters and their management should negotiate terms they like and ones that don't keep them locked down.

If they can't get what they want, don't sign. It is really that simple.

Bellator offered Jared Rosholt last year and his management told him to continue taking local fights until UFC came calling..more and more top prospects will be doing this instead of signing their lives away to Viacom MMA Purgatory

Which had nothing to do with your post about GSP has enough power to negotiate because he is GSP. Before the UFC GSP was not some powerful figure.

When your options are sign the contract, don't feed your family, or quit MMA, many people will sign because they have very few options at the start of their career.

So when you say no, BFC has another guy waiting who will say yes, so they have 100% of the bargaining power, and since you are a no name nobody at this point you have none, at all.

That is why Eddie Alvarez got a good contract, he had power. BFC wants to lock guys in for life before they get the power to bargain. These contracts are death sentences, and I hope no one signs and BFC folds.
