Audie Attar, McGregor's manager, said McGregor initially asked for the fight with Diaz, which will headline UFC 200 on July 9 in Las Vegas, at 170 pounds -- just like the first fight at UFC 196. Then, after listening to Kavanagh and the rest of his team, McGregor said at the last minute that he'd be willing to do it at 155, Attar explained.

"At the 11th hour, before we signed the bout agreement, [McGregor] said, 'Look, I'm hearing everybody. If everybody wants to do 155, fine. Let's do 155,'" Attar said Wednesday at a UFC 199 media day. ... "The contract was already written at 170. And so, in Conor's defense, he really didn't give two sh*ts. He really wanted it at 170, because he wanted to prove he could beat him there."

Supposedly EVERYONE was telling him 155. I call bullshit.

It is what it is. It's at 170lbs now so we will how that goes. Would've preferred this fight at 155 lbs.

I doubt it, if he took it at 55 and lost then his LW title hopes are dashed. If he loses at 170 again they can just claim WW is one step too high

At 155 or 170, Diaz won't be out hustled, won't be out-cardio'd, is very difficult to knock out, and virtually impossible to submit.

Just a tough style match for McG. Conor may score an early ko but it's not very likely and it's doubtful he outlasts Nate for a decision.

Well then re-issue contracts so the fight happens at 155lbs ffs.

If you compare how conor looked against nate at fight time, then go back to how he normally looks at fight time, during his 145lb fights. He looked much smoother. He wasn't nearly as defined. They were not even close to the same weight. so the people that claim they were only a few lbs difference, are idiots. They say, after conor has rehydrated, he's near 170, anyways. Umm, no he's not. Fight time with nate, he was over 170lbs. probably 175. his other fights, he was probably near 160. that's it...

makes much more sense to do it at 155

Nah he just needs that excuse to fall back on if he loses again. If he wins he can bask in the glory of winning a full prep 170 fight, if he loses he can use the same excuse about 170 being too big and then either defend his belt or go for LW. Nate is a LW fighter, there was no reason for him to make the fight at WW other than having his excuse cued up.

Fighting again at 170 makes no sense. First time yeah, Cabo Nate, this time there's no good reason.

Lol that's sad. Already signed the contract then last minute calls up Dana to request 155.

Anyways, I think the reasoning behind that is his coaches realize with a full camp Diaz can bring his weight to as high as 180-190 and cut weight like he normally does. He was already bigger than Conor who was trying to bulk like a maniac before, so give him at least an extra 10 pounds and that's big trouble. If they made it at 155, Diaz would have to maintain his weight around mid 170 to make that cut comfortably, which would be comparable to Conor's cut.

yep
McGs management is just doing damage control .

He would have conceded to 155 had Lorenzo and Dana pushed back. But I'm sure he was pretty adamant at first about fighting at 170. It's pretty obvious his entire focus right now is on erasing that defeat entirely. Beating Nate at 155 would have people saying "So what, Nate crushes him at 170."

It's a pride thing at this point. He wants that loss completely erased without any doubt. This is a watershed moment in his career. If he loses he'll always have that looming over his head and never be able to avenge it. If he wins, he's basically right back on track.
