This story is about as crazy as it gets.

Ivan Henry was convicted in 1983 of brutally raping 5 women. He was declared a dangerous offender, and sentenced to life in prison.

There was just one small problem with his conviction. Identity was an issue. And it suffices to say, the police lineup was not exactly a fair one.

This picture depicts the actual police lineup photo in the case.

Yes, three police officers are restraining Mr. Henry, with one of them holding him in a rear naked choke. A fair police lineup photo I think not.

In addition to a ridiculous police lineup photo that was used by the victims to identify their perpetrator, it turned out the police had also failed to disclose a ton of relevant information pointing to a different rapist.

As a result, after 27 years in prison, Ivan Henry was released, in what was widely regarded as one of the worst wrongful convictions in Canadian history. Henry sued the government for his wrongful conviction, and ultimately won 8 million dollars against the government. It seemed the saga was over.

Or not.

Henry's five alleged victims remained certain he was their rapist. They sued him civilly, and have now won millions against him -- basically taking everything he won against the government for his wrongful conviction. Henry is in the process of appealing, in a case that seems near certain to end up in the Supreme Court of Canada.

Goddam.
How this Civil court went? Jury?
I would appeal and sue the individual families back, plus the judge idk. WTF is even this picture, seems like a skit? Is this real life?

wtf-what-the-fuck.gif

I find it hard to believe he could lose a civil suit over a conviction that was overturned. That's fucked up. Here's to hoping for some real justice for that poor bastard.

Mind you, I'm not bad at multiplication and 5 x $375,000 is nowhere near $8 million so I wonder what details are being left out there.

I was so flabbergasted with the picture that I didnt read about the part of it being a judge.. I would sue this judge, goddamn.
About the pic, know it's real.. I was joking because it's so bizarre that looks like a skit

That's a real photo? LOL, holy shit. The case should've been dismissed right there.

I mean, maybe he's still guilty, but he sure as fuck didn't get a fair trial.

why are Canadian courts such clown shows?

Those sap sucking hockey jockeys sneak by with their polite “we’re aboot America’s hat! Or “took” as we call it!” Bullshit and then casually have a history full of war crimes and genocide.

They might want to take a look at 21. He gives off the vibe.

The judge awarded $375,000 to each of the 5 Plaintiffs in general and aggravated damages.

Fuck me. I thought the line up was parody till reading the rest. What the fuck? Mate, 8 million was a drop in the ocean anyway. Sell your story, TV, books everything.

I wonder if the actual rapist is alive still?

In Canada, a "not guilty" verdict in a criminal trial is not a bar to your victims later suing you civilly. Think about OJ Simpson.

That line-up photo looks like the movie poster from an early-80s Canadian slapstick comedy 🤯

This story is so ridiculous.

It really does. The more you look at it, the funnier it gets. Look at the guy next to the cops on the right. LOL. He seems to be the only one noticing how fucked up this is.
