There has to be more to the story. If he just in a regular pool, and can swim, his body not allow him to just stay under like that. If you dont believe me, you dont even need a pool. Just sit there hold your breath and see if you can kill yourself like that.

It's totally possible especially if you have any freediving training it like the other guy said if you purge CO2 first.
