Makhachev vs Volkanovski: A Clear Winner Was Named

Throughout the match, Islam Makachev paced himself and has solid striking which resulted in Alexander Volkanowski to become a bit hesitant in the later rounds. However. Makhachex had some problems keeping the fight in front of him as Volk's switches and speed were advantages in the fight. As Volkanowski said after the match, it was a "one off". Mahkachev underestimated Volkanowski's wrestling and defense on the ground and Volkanowski underestimated Mahkachev's striking. Volkanowski had more volume, but Mahkachev was the more efficient and damaging striker as well as him besting Volk the early rounds on the ground.

This was a clear victory 49-48 in my opinion for Mahkachev and the judges got it absolutely correct. Volkanowski even knew by round 3 that he was down in the match so the people calling this fight a "robbery" are simply speaking from the heart.

Yeah I had it 48-47 to Islam too. Great showing by Volk but he poured it on too late and was actually in need of a stoppage in the 5th to win that.

Volk is a super impressive fighter. He had some moments and did better than I thought he would. Both guys are awesome.
