I did some research on the amount of main card fights that were lost last year due to injury. Keep in mind this doesn't include prelim fights, as they are usually not near as impactful. Below is the amount of main card fights lost on each card:

TOTAL - 55/233 = 23.6%
MAIN EVENTS LOST - 12/47 = 25.5%

23.6% of main card fights were scrapped due to injury and 25.5% of main events were lost due to injury. What do you think of these numbers? Ridiculous? Acceptable?

Wow, a quarter if the main events were scrapped. That's crazy.

nice work on the stats. I'm sure people will be in here shitting on you soon enough.

ufc fight night 49 - 4/6.... thats insane, ridiculous and pathetic.

yes, but some replacement main events are better than the original.

Those numbers are brutal but its the main events crumbling is whats crushing the growth and popularity of the ufc

Imo these numbers will drop when fighters show up to camp in shape and train smarter

Ridiculous is a fair word. I'm not sure where "acceptable" applied though. No one is choosing to be injured.

Threads like these that end up with people responding with, "Fuck the UFC, this is unacceptable, they need to do something!" make me confused. These stats are unfortunate, but I don't think there is really anything that can be done.

Also good work on the numbers. Would be interesting to see previous years.

Amazing?

Beyond amazing when you look back to the events that Pride put on and there were basically no injuries ever.

Honestly, at this point I think that the fighters are doing in-house testing for PED's prior to official testing and when they are "hot" they claim an injury.

Even the older UFC events always went off without a hitch.

Wow. Awesome job. That is a brutal stat. 1/4 of fights lost. Thats baaaaad for business. I feel bad for all the people who buy ppv and the have the main card cancelled. Recently weidman belfort.

23.6% of main card fights isn't that bad since we don't know roughly 55% of the fighters anyways or we know them but they're irrelevant

It's ridiculous. But there's not really a solution. Nobody thinks they're gonna get injured until they do.

Is the UFC 175 fight lost Chael/Wand or Mitrione/Struve?

I started to keep a list, but I got lazy.

Going through last year, it was insane. SOMETHING needs to be done about it, but I have no idea what that something is.

What's causing it? Is it just bad luck? I mean, it's still going on, huge fights have already been cancelled and it's only February. Could it be because of the new drug testing? Is this what happens when fighters stop using PEDs? Could it be the pressure to stay at the top? So these fighters aren't taking any chances and they pull out with any type of injury, because they're not 100%?

Whatever it is, it's ridiculous and it's really hard to stay excited for a fight card.
