As a huge Maia fan I am routing for him to pull off an epic submission tonight enroute to him having a few top 5 matchups. I am aware age is catching up and realisticly we will only see a handful more fights from him.

So with wishful thinking...how does he compare to the current ww's. He is a tough fight for anyone and difficult to finish...only once in his career (Silva, weidman, rory, munoz etc couldnt do it).

Id love to see him challenge Brown, Hendricks, Robbie, Condit or Woodley.

I believe with an impressive finish he can make one last run...and with the exvexception of condit and rory. I think he matches up well with those top guys. Love seeing him out grapple wrestlers.

Thoughts...

Huge Maia fan; it's not really a run. He's not going for the title. Should have retired off his last win imo

either way, WAR DEMIAN

The only chance Maia had of making a run was if he had beat Rory Mac.

If there ever was a fight Maia should retire on, it's a win in front of your home country. I really hope he doesn't WAR Maia! either way.

Maia need more strength and conditioning if he wants another run. He has the technique but not the strength and conditioning to compete at the highest level

This.

I'm a huge fan and I think he would probably be champion by now if he had very good cardio. He was manhandling Rory before he gassed.

But I don't think he can improve that much at this point of his career.

Still a fan though and I'll always watch his fights.

People forget he took rory down and threated before he Passed. Maia s problems is his gas tank... And age ofc.

Still gave Chris Weidman a fight (an ugly one), dominated Rory before he gassed, fitched fitch and retired him from the UFC and damn near killed rick story.

Maia aint no bitch.

you are probably rooting rather than routing ;)

but other than that, I also have a gut feeling that his last chance of title run was that fight with MacDonald. But we'll see.

One night at fire
One shot at glory?

Rooting for Maia for sure.

I am hoping LaFlare makes a name off him. No offense, but your time is up, Demian. No reason for you derail LaFlare. Go home to your wife and kids, enjoy life.

We'll see how he looks tonight. Maia at his best can hang with anyone at WW. I'm a huge maia fan though so I wouldn't mind him getting another good win or two before he retires.

War Maia, always rooted for the guy. Hope he gives us another great submission.

Why is everybody shitting on Maia all of a sudden ? He lost a close one to shields which happens to the majority of people and lost 2/3 rounds to Rory Macdonald who most people consider the uncrowned champ. People are quick to turn on fighters around here

His style has devolved into a plodding, methodical neutralization of his opponents. The exciting fimisher of yester-year (half a decade ago, give or take) seems to be a thing of the past. I hope that he can turn things around but I'm not holding my breath. Thanks for the memories.

He has had a couple of poor performances lately but in all honesty I can't really argue with you. He has been less than impressive since he has moved away from his grappling, still wish we got a chance to see him vs palhares though
