Demian had a competitive striking fight with Weidman. He took a round arguably 2 from Anderson standing. He gave Rory problems standing especially before he gassed and moments in the 3rd. He rocked Munoz in the 1st with a left hand. He has decent striking.

Brown has said that the UFC let him choose between 3 opponents and he picked Maia because it would be his toughest test.

Frankly I'm not a fan of straight BJJ in MMA. I'll watch BJJ if that's what I wanted. He is about as bad as anyone at trying to avoid stand-up.

Just a personal preference- he's obviously good enough at avoiding getting his head taken off to make it a JJ fight. I just prefer less predictable fights.
