What's intriguing too is that it is still tough to gauge where Lyoto stands in his career. No one at 39 is going to be getting better, that's for sure, but I look at the last few years and think, losing to Romero and Rockhold is no shame- so did Weidman and he's one of the best.
Now losing to Brunson how he did is where it gets dicey. On the one hand, Brunson is a first-round finisher. He has 11 first-round finishes with strikes. So, again, getting put down by Brunson is not something that jumps out to me and says, "Oh Lyoto has no chin!" It more just says, yeah Brunson hits hard and is dynamic and fast.
At the end of the day, though, Lyoto should be beating Brunson. Brunson is a good fighter for sure, but that should be a winnable fight for him and the fact that he lost in that way and did not Jacare him makes me think that it is certainly coming toward the end.
I want to see a return to form of sorts tonight though. And anyone who knows Anders knows he is legit so it would be a big win if Machida can pull it off.
