Machida put some really tough guys to sleep

Unfortunately he loses to Weidman,Rockhold(again),Jacare,Mousasi (lucky to have him on win ledger due to Gegards back acl tears in 2 years and facing Lyoto as his first fight back at 185),and probably Romero again..Machida still top 10 at mw---beats Vitor,Bisping and Kennedy.Anderson would be an interesting match up.

Mousasi would absolutely lose to Machida again and from all the people you mentioned, the only one he has a chance to win against is Bisping.

People really have a problem adjusting to reality when it comes Mousasi.

Damn shame he didn't age well like gay jesus romero.

Sorry, it's mandatory. Shogun was the first to slay the dragon.

Yeah, the Shogun love on these forums got in the way of Machida getting his due. Plenty of people were on his nuts when he was at his best, though.

Jeez. In a thread talking about Machida's impressive list of KO's and showing some respect to an amazing fighter, there always has to be someone like you begging for attention. It actually is not mandatory. If that's all you had to contribute, why click on the thread? You saw the title. We've all seen it a million times already.

Oh please. The Lyoto fans post the Shad face in almost every Evans thread. You probably think that is hilarious...

Lyoto was great. And all class. However, his fans who continue to argue he beat Rua (he did not) in their first fight, and then whine about the Machida decision losses to Rampage and Davis are clueless. And deserve to be called out. There is a difference between respecting what Lyoto has done, and calling bullshit on his clueless fans...

And fwiw I am a Dan Henderson fan and have no problem admitting Dan has numerous decision wins that should be losses....

It's true. Shogun was the most loved fighter on these boards for years. He always seems like a good guy. The only reason he ever got any hate was because of his aggressive and delusional fan base.

Big fan of Thiago Silva here, but Machida's trip and KO of him was about as perfect as it gets, IMO

MAchida has slowed a bit but the biggest reason he has struggled more because he let non karateka coach him and they mitigated his unique timing and made him some quasi kickboxing fighter.

Ever watch him fight when he is struggling, he goes back for a bit into his karate bouncing style rather than that strange loose kneed John Wayne swaying circling move that he does. He sticks out his lead hand and lets it flop like he is on some promenade.

When he was a younger fighter he would always say that people tried to get him to change his stand-up and he refused. He did not refuse Cordiero and the razor sharp things he did were dulled. In addition, the demand to be more exciting forced him to dilute his style a bit to stay in the pocket.

He made mistakes against Jones by getting in close for too long otherwise he was challenging him at a time Jones was still developing.

Machidas BJJ is club speed. Meaning he rolls like he has all day and he has been taking elbows to end him. His transitions from striking to in-fighting were tricky ending in sweeps and top control. He has swayed away from foot sweeps off his attacks which were a concern for his opponents. His opponents also learned to step off line after their attack to counter his straight left (Shogun, Jones, Weidman).

He is not as old but more, he has given up tools that help him.

I watched that fight in ultra slow motion and he landed the better strikes on vital areas by far. Rogan swayed the fight.

He started old as well, had to go through a very long road to the title shot, and did not manage to really fit a weight category after a certain age.

He got either dwarfed by the new breed light heavyweights, or fragilized by his weight cut to middle weight.

Not making any excuses, his rise was as intense as his downfall

Didn't Rampage himself admit he had lost that bout? Was he also clueless?

i have thought this before also. he is one of the few fighters that i think has not noticeably improved under the tutelage of cordeiro. maybe he is a work in progress, who knows. im not even sure if he is still training with rafael at king's tbh.

I agree. It's saddening all the accusations of being boring which he was no where near being, along with other factors caused him to change his style. Perhaps he just doesn't have the reflexes and speed to fight like he used to. His front kicks to the body in between punching combinations and his trips when people got near were really a thing of beauty. I still watch his older fights to learn. The first Shogun fight was an amazing fight from both fighters. I wonder if he'll be appreciated a little more after he retires? Probably not. Disappointing.

Absolute legend and one of the best of all time, lately he just doesn't command as much respect as he used to in the octagon, a little slower, less power on his punches and he appears a lot physically weaker.
