Media Luke Thomas says MMA fans last between 5 to 10 years before the fall out of love with MMA

Yeah after their favorite fighter loses they often stop watching. Remember when Conor was big and we had so many people on this forum who worshipped him and now I would say 75%+ of those fans aren't even active on the forums anymore.

I still enjoy watching, but I LOVED the sport from 2006-2020. The UFC hasn't been the same since Covid, and is actively degrading as a product.

That's not far off if you look at Sherdog. How many times a week do you see posts about not watching anymore and reminiscing about the heyday?

I fell in love during the Pride days and still love the sport and watch all the main events and the feature prelims most of the time. Don't really pay attention to the fighters personalities and backstage shit anymore but I think that just comes with age.

i agree with this, except i think it's been degrading way before COVID. it started really degrading, ironically, around Conor's time. between Conor and Jon they've set so many negative precedents and had the UFC kowtowing to everything they want the sporting part of MMA is practically dead.

How do you like the current talent? are they just as interesting as the old ones or way less?
the older guys had a mystique about em... some guys fought all around the world in dif weight classes ect so i personally find the older days with more open rules and stuff a lot more fun.. now a days u got guys in the mma game to be celebs, game planning a lot more and not taking as many risks. that said this is all just my 2cents.. thanks for asking

I’m in the same boat. I used to watch everything. But now I don’t care as much if I miss things. I started in 2007 and I’d say the peak for me was around 2009-2012. Having Strikeforce + WEC+ UFC events and then the merger was a lot of fun.

I've been into it for a while (check my join date)
I used to watch it religiously and I'm still a fan but I used to be able to name every fighter on the card.
It's just gotten very watered down over the years.
And the fanbase is toxic so the quality of the discussions have really gone down.
I still watch the big fights.

Fedor #1.

Just completed my third decade,

Haven't paid for shit since Fedor & Nick Diaz
were drowned out by Brock Lesnar.
MMA had peaked by 2009.

Started watching religiously around 2011 (Jon vs Page). Watched every single fights from early prelims to main events. Fight nights, PPV, TUF. Also went back in time and watched the old UFC, Pride (Fedor = 🐐), etc. Started training MT, Boxing, and BJJ as well.

Nowadays, I still LOVE the sport, but I'm just not as enthusiastic as I was. I don't go out of my way to catch many Fight Nights, and I don't mind missing the occasional PPVs here & there. When I do watch live though, I still watch every single fights on the card. I'm also excited to get back into training.

The sport has objectively evolved and fighters today are more skilled than ever before.

What kills my enthusiasm from time to time is the lackluster cards. Way too many meaningless FN cards and PPVs that have only a couple of decent fights like UFC 312.

Do you not think that "mystique" and "aura" are things that just aren't as applicable as you age? I know that when I was a younger person, that kind of stuff had a much bigger feel to me.
