Luke Rockhold and his defensive skills

Nah he's legit. Just needs to work on footwork and keep his chin down.

As solid as his striking and ground game are, the playbook for beating him is obvious.

He drops his hands against everyone. Branch, Bisping, Yoel. In the pocket Luke gets touched up. He needs a preferred striking distance or the ground. Even OLD Vitor heel kicked him to sleep.

I fear his move to LHW will be dangerous if he doesnt block shit

Agreed. He's really rangy also, so not sure why he gets in the phone booth so much with opponents.

He tries to look cool first and survive second. In the Branch fight took numerous shots by giving it the “I got this” bullshit. Look at him when Romero was romancing him against the cage after the fight, he was trying to look cool and ended up an eternal meme.

luke's only defense is his check right hook, which to be fair does work most of the time.

he needs to stop acting like a boxer and take fights to the ground, or stay in kicking range and actually use his kicks.

LOL an eternal meme

I believe he relys on his kicks too much. Not necessarily a bad thing he has some great kicks, he broke Yoels leg I believe? However he becomes predictable as time goes on in the fight and any fighter with a good fight IQ will see that. Yoel struck me as the opposite but I was wrong.

Not his fault.

That was complete and utter disrespect by Romero, and Luke was a complete gentleman to keep his cool, when the guy who just KO'd him came over and added insult to injury.

If Luke had as good defensive skills as offensive skills , he'd go places.

i think he should stay kick heavy, so theres the chance of the opponent catching it and maybe trying to take him down, which opens up scrambling opportunities for him.

i believe boestch caught a kick, shot a takedown and luke hit a sweep immediately.

edit: yeah

Yeah I think the ref/officials dropped the ball there. They should have separated them

This. He has such length and such a strong kicking game. Keep a telephone pole jab out there to maintain distance and use that beautiful body kick, ffs.

Will never understand why he enters into the clinch so readily with these murderers.

Also, yeah, he doesn’t tuck his chin well or use solid defensive footwork.

He’s still my favorite MW, but I don’t see him getting the MW or LHW belts in his current form
